The Fox and Hounds, Fair Oak

My wife and i have been visiting lots of pubs in the area and are steadily working our way through the Hampshire Pub Guide. Being new to the area we have had heard mixed reviews of the Fox. I personally didn't enjoy our visit, as my food was overcooked and not very warm at all. My wife's salad was a lot better and she really enjoyed it. Beer was ok and the second pint was better than first. Friendly staff were helpful and bid us a very nice goodbye. May return for another go as don't feel they have reached full potential yet!!

The Phoenix Inn, Twyford

New to this area of Winchester, and love the village. Two pubs in village and we first visited the more traditional of the two, The Phoenix. Nice pub lunch, and good value for money. Wouldn't go back in the evening as my wife felt a bit out of place. I loved it though. Green King, with decent beers, only tried one though. Better than the fuller pubs we have recently been visiting. Will go back to village & other pub shortly.

The Old Forge, Otterbourne

Started off really well, nice welcome, smiley staff, good menu (a little over priced) and a pleasant decor. Sadly it nose dived from there. Very slow service, so slow that our wine arrived a full 15 minutes after the starters!! Food was unacceptable considering the price, not value to us at all.
I just wish breweries would just let pubs be pubs, do 10 things good on the menu instead of 30 badly.

The Black Boy, Winchester

A real cracker of a pub, oozes character. Not part of any brewery either, which is always good. Had lovely pubby lunch and amazing local beers. Very, very friendly staff as well. One of the best we have been to in Hampshire. Dez

The Wykeham Arms, Winchester

Recently moved to Winchester area, and finding our feet regarding good pubs with good food and good atmosphere, Sadly this is not one of them. We were disappointed with the beer, the food was cold and a bit of a let down. Description on menu was very appealing, need to show the chef i think. Won't be trying again. Dezrezza

The Bishop On The Bridge, Winchester

Was in Winchester a couple of weeks ago and popped in for a quick beer on way home. Nice pint and very reasonable for the area i thought. Barman knowledgeable and food looked ok. Will pop back again. Dezrezza
