The White Hart, Canterbury

Really gone down hill since it changed hands.

The Wellington, Strand

Small but bright pub with many original features. Ales kept very well. With a mass of pubs in the area could do a lot worse and I'd visit again.

The Marquess of Anglesey, Covent Garden

I knew this pubs years ago when it was one of the few pubs in the area that knew how to keep real ale.
Unfortunately the interior of the pub has been gutted and nothing remains of this once lovely pub. It may suit the trendies that frequent Covent Garden but I prefer to pubs to be pubs and not pretend to be wine bars.

The Globe, Covent Garden

I knew this pub many years ago when it used to be a popular watering hole. A rather strange colour scheme with what appears to be a picture of the landlord painted as a famous Henry VIII picture.

Spitfire was fine rather than excellant.

Not a pub I will bother visit again for quite a few more years.

The Angel and Crown, Leicester Square

Rip off short measures; toilets that you can smell from the bar. Staff and management couuldn't give a fig. I only went in as the Salisbury across the road was full. Never again.

The Anglesea Arms, Chelsea

I knew this pub in the 70s and was tempted to visit again having seen its high placing in one of the trade papers.

I wish I left my memories undisturbed.

Still has a mass of Beer engines but with a pretty boring choice. Food offering (I don't think it did food in the 70s) is un-inviting and the back bar is now resrvered for eating (and you can't get served there anymore.

A bit tatty with boring beer selection. An OK pub but there are far better pubs than this and I don't see how it got voted 4th best in the country.

The Old Cage, Lingfield

I have known this pub for over 30 years and for many years my local. I have seen it on a high with excellent beers served by good staff to a dive with rubbish beer and lousy staff.

On my last two visits it appears to be between the two extremes in the cycle at the moment. aka bland beer and nonsuch staff.

Kings Arms, Wareham

A lovely non prentious pub. It is a lovely on the inside as it is from outside.
Very friendly staff and locals; food is top notch.

Some may expext a beefeater type experience if they do they had best go off and find one.

If you are looking for a real pub serving good beer and food this is the place for you.

The Antelope, Poole

Bland beer with rude staff. Take your money elsewhere.

The Fox, Corfe Castle

Lovely looking pub. Unfortunately none of the character has been retained inside. Food was OK beer was close to vinegar.

The George, Poole

An obviously busy pub in a pub desert area of the town. Service just about ok but with uncleared tables well after eating time on a Friday. beer just about ok.
There are a lot worse in Poole disappointingly this one could be brilliant if the management put some effort into it.

The Blue Boar, Poole

Nice pint, pub clean, almost has a managed house feel about it.
nonetheless a dam good pint of ale. well worth a visit.

The Angel, Poole

Good selection of ales...staff took our order and then served someone else who had just walked up to the bar.

Avoid.

The Portsmouth Hoy, Poole

Food is excellent simple without being pretentious. Beer is well worth a visit on its own.
This pub has obviously been revamped by a brewery architect who has damaged much of the beauty of what is obviously an old pub.
Of my brief tour of the pubs in this town this one stands very high for its food and its beer...and very good staff.

The Poole Arms, Poole

Great beer, a good honest real traditional pub

The Albion Taverna, Faversham

Excellent food. Wine over priced if you buy by the glass. Ales are inconsistent probably due to too many on offer for an eatery without the sales of ale to be able to maintain a consistent standard.

Service is usually very good although not fast.

This is perhaps the best restaurant in Faversham but as casual drinkers are not really catered for and the inconsistent ale quality I feel it deserves a low rating on a site dedicated to pubs and beer.

Leading Light, Faversham

One of the three most popular places in town for a punch up.
Unfortunately the police imposed closing time of 11 pm has forced most other pubs in town also closing at that time to avoided being invaded by drunk and drugged customers from here over running them.

The White Hart, Canterbury

Probably the best real pub within the city walls, good pint of beer and extensive wine offering. Food perhaps a little pricey but nonetheless worth the money.

17 May 2007 20:29

The Bowl Inn, Hastingleigh

Lovely real traditional pub. Well kept selection of Ales including the best tasting Harveys I have had outside of Sussex.
Only does snacks to order.
Don't be put off by the biker look of Ron the landlord who dispite his looks runs a very friendly and spotless pub.
The pub is family run so not open weekday afternoons.

The Tickled Trout, Wye

Typical ex Whitbread house; bland pricey frozen food Beer hit and miss because too many on offer.

8 Aug 2006 01:11

The Market Inn, Faversham

Probably the best pint of Master Brew in Faversham.

8 Aug 2006 01:04

Hole In The Wall, Faversham

So many problems with this pub it now only opens at night... even then you must submit to a search for weapons before admission. Popular place to start a fight which are generally continued in a branded cheap booze outlet a few doors away.
