Friendly locals pub located on the A539 just before you get into llangollen from Ruabon direction.Run by the same people who have got The Sun pub on the other side of the river.Always a warm welcome, usually about 6 ales to choose from and always in good condition.

Corn Mill, Llangollen

Always call in here when in Llangollen beer is a bit expensive but its always in good condition and sitting on the decking on a sunny day with the Dee racing below you is a great way to cool down after a hard days walk

The Stork Hotel, Birkenhead

Sausage rolls are now on!Along with some fine beers.Snecklifter,Butcombe,Abbot & Old Hooky amongst them.Glad to have this pub back on my regular roster.Same staff on so transition has appeared to be smooth. Not so sure that Diane & John have found that to be the case but don`t worry the punters are happy!

The Stork Hotel, Birkenhead

New licensees have taken over from 22 April..Been in each day since they took over and atmosphere has lifted considerably.Old regulars coming out of the woodwork.Beers up to now are Hobgoblin,Cumberland Marston`s pedigree & Navajo. The last few years have been a bit deflating for this fine pub but now we have a new dawn.Hope the local real ale drinkers give the new team their custom and experience the breath of fresh air (and ale) this pub needed.Good luck to Diane & John

Tweedies Bar at Dale Lodge Hotel, Grasmere

paid a couple of visits last week, had a beer bat of coniston oatmeal stout, hardknott ginger beer and langdale, all excellent.busy bar with people coing in off the fells, lot of dogs in there exhausted after their exerts on the hills.a group of people next to me had ordered meals, fish chips & peas and steak pie & chips.food looked great so i had a look at the menu.fish meal 12.95,steak meal 11.95.as steep as the local hills!i look forward to sampling the great atmosphere and beer here on future visits to the area but i`ll look somewhere else for my dinner

The Golden Rule, Ambleside

same old `rule` i found last week.robinsons XB & blonde etc can lose their appeal after a couple of pints or 4 but you cannot but say this is the best pub in ambleside as the number of locals you meet in there testify to.by god that fire gets hot

Queen's Hotel, Ambleside

This pub does serve a decent array of local ales which i admit i have never found fault with but the pleasantries from the boss and his staff (enjoy your pint sir)etc comes over so monotously that you never feel there is any sincerity attached to it.bit like macdonalds.food is average and leaves you wanting more, don`t come here after a hard day on the fells, you will still be hungry afterwards given the portions of food they serve.i`ll give it a 7 for the standard of the beer 3 for the food

White Lion Hotel, Ambleside

Pint of cumberland now up to3.35 a pt.Chefs special steak pie turned out to be a vegetarian dish. This hotel stinks of the give us your money and bugger off code of hotel management.Eat or drink in here you will be staggered by the ineptitude of the staff.

Bridge End Hotel, Llangollen

handy finishng point after a canal walk, friendly attentive staff.seating on front of pub is a real suntrap.seems to cover a few bases with a cosy bar (seems popular for the locals) and a seperate dining area.had a couple of pints of robinsons unicorn which was in good order & a pub dinner before getting the bus to this pubs namesake in ruabon.

The Bridge End, Ruabon

had to visit after a few good comments from friends.small old fashioned pub with low ceilings.small collection of books to pass away the time and 5 real ales on the go.locals seem a friendly lot.swot up on conference football before you go so you know how the robins are getting on!handy for ruabon station for trains to chester.i`ll be making another call!

Gallaghers, Birkenhead

i`m not sure happytyskie has got the right pub here because he has posted the same comment for the river view pub (virtually next door) as he has for gallaghers.i`m sure the bad experience occurred in only one of the pubs so which one?the staff in gallaghers have always been ready to make sure your pint is topped up or if you like a good head on your pint you only have to ask and they will oblige.some good salopian beers on lately in gallaghers, worth a visit!

The Railway, Liverpool

strange how a negative review for this pub brings 2 new reviewers making there 1st comments on the site, maybe yourhairlooksnice & cc121 have vested interests in this pub?as i said i have always recommended the food here and this was the 1st time i have had cause to complain.the obvious reason being that this was the 1st time the staff here did not enquire as to wether everything was ok with my meal.i know why!since this pub has been under the current management i have always made this my 1st call when in the `pool,no stranger!.i just could not be bothered complaining because i would not be going back anyway.

The Railway, Liverpool

The Open Arms, Birkenhead

paid 1st visit mon t`time,(pub reopened sun).they have done a nice job inside with a new wooden floor, lots of old pics of the area to browse around.real ales on,trappers hat, wainwright,l`pool org` casade and a phoenix beer,2.70 a pint(2.20 happy hour 4.30-6.30pm)guiness a bit pricey at 3.10 and i suppose the lager will be as i think the management are aiming at the older market and the success of this pub will depend on them keeping out the problem familys in the area who have blighted this pub for the last 10yrs.well worth a visit and with the effort that s gone into this venture it deserves some footfall from the real ale suppers.

Queens Head Hotel, Hawkshead

nice pub with attentive staff, but has been taken over by eaters.the horse shoe immediately on the right on entering does give some respite for drinkers but its restaurant is so popular this often spills over.robinsons beer as well doesn`t help

12 Nov 2011 09:59

Red Lion Inn, Hawkshead

my regular when ever i stay in h`head, well kept beer and affordable food, not been taken over by eaters though.good crack with the locals at teatime

12 Nov 2011 09:52

The Golden Rule, Ambleside

i paid a few visits to the g`rule the other week and found it to be a good traditional pub,no music, footy on the telly etc.its a great favourite with dog owners and gives off a nice family atmosphere.only downside is the real ale is all robinsons as it is a tied house.i stuck to the black beauty which was a nice pint but i prefer my ale a bit lighter

5 Nov 2011 08:29

Gallaghers, Birkenhead

they have made a great effort here and the beer is always spot on,frienfly staff who enjoy a chat but don`t neglect customers waiting for service.just enjoyed l`pool organic 24carat gold 1.80 in happy hour 4-7.bit quite at tea times so if you are fed up waiting to be served elsewhere have a look here

7 Jul 2011 07:37

The Stork Hotel, Birkenhead

im afraid the real ale is rarely in god nick nowadays.shame, good bunch of regulars, they deserve better

7 Jul 2011 07:29

The Stork Hotel, Birkenhead

i agree with beerdrinker as regards this pub,it is definitely the best boozer in birkenhead with just one gripe.the real ales are some times fine but at other times can be flat and stale so its a bit of a lottery.but it has got the friendliest bar staff in town.don`t come here before 6.30 expecting to park the car as the only option is the parking meter!that bit of land at the back is not the pubs.
