The Birkbeck Tavern, Leyton

Great pub that just got better with the new management. Cheers!

Really friendly east London boozer. Great place to read a paper in the day, plenty of low key stuff going on by night.

The Red Lion, Leytonstone

NO LONGER ZULUS! Hurrah!

ZULUs shut down about two years ago, so this page needs updating.

It's now called the Red Lion again, as it used to be. Really nice 'Antic' pub, similar to their other long pubs. Nice shabby chic styling, loads of space, board games etc. Decent selection of beers, GREAT selection of really good wines.

Not a cheap pub, but no worse than most others. If you want cheap there is a Weatherspoons across the road. This place has loads of character and nice staff.

Went for the NYE party, was just 5 in,, and was great fun, didn't oversell tickets so wasn't too ramped, never waited to long to get served.

Best thing about this place is it's new bar billiards table, I love the game so it's great to see more london pubs with a table.

If you are in the area def drop in, worth a look.

The Loaded Dog, Leytonstone

This pub is now closed, and has reopened (or IS reopening rather) under a new name and new staff on the 11th Jan. It was a decent pub, nothing that special, jazz nights were good.

New pub is styled as a Polish bar - so be interesting to check out the beers. Will report back when it opens - but I think this pages needs closing a new one starting?

The Chandos, Trafalgar Square

averybigblob - that sounds pretty normal for a London pub though, just cos it's low key doesn't mean the rents any lower! What you get, a double and a large wine? Price sounds right. If that was two pints then yes - but remember this pub doesn't have 'PubCo' style double measure offers.
