The Clements Arms, Birmingham

"Birmingham City Fc Home pub! avoid if you are an away fan!"

I think you have the wrong Clements. The bluenose loons frequent the one just by their stadium, not one the other side of town.

I assume you're a bluenose.

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend going here, the beer is pretty awful and you'll more than likely find yourself the only person in the place.

The Harriers, Perry Barr

Shut down about a year ago.

The Boars Head, Perry Barr

Despite all the optimistic comments below, The Boars Head has been boarded up for the last few weeks.

The Bulls Head, Hall Green

Cheap, busy and friendly.

Packed on a Saturday afternoon and the Timothy Taylors was very good.

Brass tables stink a bit though, like putting your pint on a massive 2p.

The Lyndon, Solihull

Seem to be doing their best but still a vast, souless place.

Dirt cheap food though, and a great smoking area.

The Lord Clifden, Birmingham

Nice enough pint of Bathams, pricey grub.

Don't know what the fuss is about, to be honest. Plenty of better boozers in Birmingham, most not in such of a grim area.

The Church Inn, Hockley

Never been in here before, went in on Saturday afternoon, nice enough but bar sealed off.

Drunk blonde landlady in the corner eating a fry up, shouting things at people and sharing private banter with bar staff across the pub.

'If food was as good as sex' she cackled 'I'd be 30 stone.'

How we laughed.

How we left.

The Bulls Head, Moseley

I saw a couple of bag ladies have a fight in here a few years back, pulling each others hair and scratching while everyone just sat there and watched.

Think they've done it up since then. Shame.

The King Edward VII, Aston

Closed down.

The Railway Inn, Dorridge

No jostling at the bar here, went on Sunday to be confronted with a queue of pensioners standing in line, waiting to blow their pension money on a dinner.

Good place if you want to have a chat about the war I suppose, you might need to wake them up first though.

The Golden Age, Chadsmoor

Closed down.

The Bell and Bottle, Hednesford

Good, friendly back street local with a decent range of beers and an excellent smoking area.

Average age of clientele is about 60 but I quite like that in a pub.

The Spread Eagle, Acocks Green

Bog standard Wetherspoons. Takes an age to get served and no atmosphere at all, everyone just staring silently at Sky News.

The Tyburn House, Castle Vale

Lots of stares from rough looking locals when we went in of a lunchtime which is a bit surprising given how massive this place is.

Food alright and it's got a pinball table (jealously guarded by the locals by the look of it).

Wouldn't bother again, I imagine it kicks off in there on a regular basis.

The Lad In The Lane, Erdington

Fantastic building, oldest pub in Birmingham, building dates back to 1400.

Pity they can't pick it up and put it somewhere nicer than Bromford Lane.

Quite friendly though, good area out the back for smokers.

Jubilee, Hednesford

Nice grub, friendly gaffer, bit rowdy in the bar, no-one in the lounge.

1 Jul 2008 15:12

The Nags Head, Henley In Arden

Unfriendly, both locals and staff, proper Slaughtered Lamb type place.

Given the choice nearby I wouldn't bother.

The Alestake, Birmingham

This place has been closed for years!

The Town Crier, Birmingham

Just awful.

2 Jun 2008 13:07

Yates's, Birmingham

Closed down.

No loss, frankly.

2 Jun 2008 13:02

The Journeys End, Yardley

Full of kids.

Stinks of grease.

Quite cheap, nice smoking area.

2 Jun 2008 12:49

The Ring O Bells, Yardley

Closed.

Burnt down a few weeks ago.

2 Jun 2008 12:47

The New Inn, Yardley

A right dump.

Undrinkable beer at extortionate prices.

Moody atmosphere inside from hostile locals so sat on a rickety old bench in the car park (or beer garden as they have it) and stared at the graffiti covered, dilapidated shopping centre opposite whilst breathing in the fumes from the coventry road traffic.

I can think of no reason ever to return to this hole.
