The Carpenters Arms, Windsor

"Beer range varies" means just that, the range of ales changes on a regular basis (ie: they do not stock one or two particular ales all of the time). This pub is a Nicholsons, so has a list from which to buy, which is even more reason to praise the work of the publican. There are not many pubs with 6 ales on, all in good nick, hence the aknowledgement from CAMRA. Windsor had improved over the last few years on the ale front and the Carps is one of the best Windsor has to offer. If you think Windsor is bad, go to Slough!

Beer and a pie - the best staple diet and the best place to get it!

The Greyhound, Eton WIck

I am not sure that I am reading about the right pub in these reviews! I have always felt extremely welcome here. The beer is in good nick and Timothy Taylor Golden Best is unusual for this area, as is the Tinners. Julie is a great landlady and its a shame the lease is up for sale. I get round quite a few pubs and this one, as a back street locals boozer, is a good one. It is a little tired inside, but this is a pub, not your front room!

The Duke of Connaught, Windsor

This is a great pub. I like the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Usually has a guest other then the Greene King beers. Mr B_F should be thankful for any selection at all in a Greene King pub! I quite liked the St Edmunds, so its a shame its gone (even as a CAMRA-minded non lager drinker!) At least there was a choice of whether to have your beer with a creamy head or not.

The burgers are great - cooked exactly as they should be!

The Criterion, Windsor

I agree with the local sentiment here. It's a geat boozer. Very friendly and a good pint.

Browns, Windsor

Quite pleasant as a meeting place before the races and nice to see some decent foreign lagers, but why oh why can't these places stock cask ale? The number of punters would warrent it.

Very noisy upstairs if its busy. Trying to talk to your friends over dinner is a challenge.

The Vansittart Arms, Windsor

Certainly should be a GBG listed pub. The recent beer festival was great. Fullers Vintage straight from the barrel, what could be better. The best pint of Fullers around this area. Of course it is "very much a tied house", it says Fullers on the door!

The chilli was pretty good today, too.

The Alma, Windsor

What a find! This place is quirky but wonderful. Certainly off the beaten track, but well worth the walk. A good pint of Hobgoblin, too.

The Trooper, Windsor

At 3.40 a pint of Pride, the publican should not have to look far when asking why the pub is empty. This has been a cracking pub in the past, no reason why it should not be again.

The White Horse, Hedgerley

This pub has been voted SWM CAMRA pub of the year has done on many occassions. The beer range is superb and the landlord knows his ale. There are also two ciders and a belgian beer on draft.

The clientel is a mixture of locals and beer lovers alike. Coversation is not spoilt by a juke box or a games machine. This is how a country pub should be.

Many different types of people go to the beer festivals and that makes it much more fun. My friends and fellow drinkers are neither Estate Agents, overweight clerical assistants, yuppies or faux farmers, however, we know a good pub when we see one!!

If you want Fullers, Shepherd Neame and other such boring brands, then go somewhere else. Go here if you want to try well kept different beers from small, new and unknown brewers.

The Carpenters Arms, Windsor

There has been a change of management at this local CAMRA pub of the year. Dave is keen on his beer and the six that were available on our visit were in good condition. The pub does need a lick of paint, but don't let this put you off a pub with good beer and decent pub grub.
