The George, Staines

riverboy suggests that I'm hard to please! On the contrary; give me a FULL pint and I'm as happy as a puppy in a streetful of lampposts! I'm pleased to hear that at least one customer gets a top-up without argument, but why should he have to ask anyway?
I wrote to JD Wetherspoon in November 07 to complain about the short measures in The George, and Kathy Long (Customer Services) wrote to say that steps would be taken to improve the service; still waiting, Kathy!

The Jolly Farmer, Staines

Visited 25Oct07. Landlord friendly enough, but only draught beer on offer was John Smith's at 3 a pint.
Probably wouldn't bother again.

The Three Tuns, Staines

Back in Staines after 4-1/2 years I find that things are improved where the beer is concerned; the Guinness and the John Smith's are very good, and full pints are served.
On the down side it's not a pub where you'd take your mother or your daughter for a drink because the language heard in there from both men and women, staff and customers, is frankly appalling. I've been a soldier, a policeman, a seaman, an airman and a tax inspector in my time, so I've heard a lot of foul language; but there's no need for it in the pub. Anyone would think it was owned by the BBC!

The George, Staines

I made the first review of this pub on this site on 1Apr03 before I went to do the grey nomad thing in Australasia, the Pacific islands, and the Far East. On return I find that things have not improved.
On 28Aug07 when I complained about short measure I was told by the manageress that THE LAW permitted the serving of nineteen ounces in a twenty-ounce glass, and if I didn't like it I could go elsewhere. So I did: again!
On 25Oct07 I chanced it once more, and saw guest beers clearly marked at 1.69; so I ordered one and was asked for 1.89. Then I saw the small print; the lower price applies only to Wednesdays. This is, at the very least, deliberately misleading. And on top of that I was served a short measure yet again.
The beer may be cheaper than elsewhere in Staines, but when I ask for a pint I want twenty ounces. It seems that the only way to get a fair go from this lot is to buy bottles.
I've been in some very good Wetherspoon pubs, especially in the north of England, but this dump is beyond belief.

Pleased to hear about the change of landlady and the sale of full pints! However, as now in Queensland will be unable to come in to drink her health.

The George, Staines

A good choice of beers, but the staff of this pub seem to want their customers off the premises within five minutes of closing time. When I asked about the twenty minutes drinking-up time available, I was told that I could always drink somewhere else!
So I have done!
