Bakers Arms, Winchester

Local and we still get stared at when we go in for lunch. Probably bcos we look like we own a bath.
Lunches are good at 5 or maybe even less. They do one homemade thing a day. They're stingey with the ketchup sachets though so check there's enough before you order chips!

The Black Boy, Winchester

Not sure i agree with zeitlin on the pots! I think the original was better as with their other brews. The black boy serves bowman ale too though which is the new other half of the old cheriton brewery

The Green Man, Winchester

The owner's blind so if there's a problem let him know! The chef tried to pass off 6 scampi as a portion when i ate there

The Wykeham Arms, Winchester

Quality traditional pub. It is the local for the teachers of winchester college and has strong connections (hence the school desks mentioned below).
Food is expensive but i havent tried it so cant comment. Actually i had a sandwich once for 5 which was terrible. Sliced white bread and no chips/crisps to go with it.
Avoid if you dont like ponciness or are jelous of posh people i suppose

The Blonde Beer Cafe, Winchester

It's definately a bar, not a pub. No real beer but all sorts of fashionable drinks. Very young and cool, avoid if you're over 30!
It is well thought-out though and has a good vibe, if quite pretentious

The Old Coach House Inn, Winchester

It's pretty grimy already, it hasnt been cleaned since the new owner took over. The toilets were ripped out then (about 2 years ago) and havent been put back yet. They are some of the worst i have encountered and i feel sorry for girls who need to sit down for the loo.

A friend once found a shit in the middle of the girls' loo (not in the cubicle) and the staff wouldnt do anything about it. They said "step over it"

The Exchange, Winchester

Avoid if you dont like being distracted by TVs!
One time they had 3 different sports matches playing on different TVs. You cant avoid them.
Also dont eat anything fresh there! The microwave stuff is probably fine but i had a salad that hadnt been washed, had mud on it and no dressing. The barpeople take it in turns to 'do' the food

William Walker, Winchester

My new favourite, this place has got life. The reason could be bcos the owner is not from winchester. He & his chef are italian and the food is brilliant.
The pizza is amazing, the best i've ever had and not a bad price. They cook it in a traditional brick oven.
I like that it's not pretentious. They dont arrange the food in ridiculous fashion and the havent spent loads on fancy cutlery or napkins.

The Original Porthouse, Winchester

I've been to this place 6 times and only been let in once. The main reason seems to be bcos i am not a chav. Other times they've just ignored us.
I wasnt dressed correctly once whereas the group of idiots in ben sherman, shiny shoes and gold earings were let straight in.

The Albion, Winchester

The fact they serve decent real ale makes this pub worth stopping off at. It is very small but it's got a nice clean feel to it.
