The Scarborough Arms, Scarborough

In a quiet corner of Scarborough this is one of the few pubs you can have chat and a decent pint in a clean well run establishment. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The beer whilst not exciting (Theakstons) was well kept, something you can't say for some of the pubs nearby. Will go again.

The Stanhope Arms, Kensington

Nice pub with a good atmosphere, full of Italians for football the night we went. The beer was very good and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Quite extensive menu but avoid the fish and chips, very average. I would visit again for the beer and atmosphere but not the food.

The Hoop and Toy, South Kensington

I agree with the review below, disappointing. Taylor Walkers need to have a serious look at this pub. The beer was not great and the place was dirty and worn. The staff seemed OK. No atmosphere at all.

The Robin Hood Inn, Pontefract

Lots of choice and constantly changing well kept beers and ciders. They will give you a sample if the beer is new to you. Pleasant and helpful staff in a traditional town pub. Good friendly atmosphere.

The Brewery Tap, Leeds

Modern bar/restaurant close to Leeds station. Busy with a good atmosphere. A wide range of beers and a good menu at reasonable prices.

20 Apr 2012 10:18

The Red Lion, Pall Mall

Down a rather creepy alley, a back street London Pub. Inside not great decor but warm, welcoming and a great atmosphere. Very good pint of Adnams Southwold.

3 Mar 2012 10:56

The Three Crowns, St James's

Not a bad place but lacks atmosphere and the beer is very average. Not really a typical London pub nor a trendy bistro pub, tries to be both and fails to be either. Average, could be better.

The Red Lion, St James

Excellent pub. A small but perfectly preserved Victorian pub. Two small rooms with the walls covered in cut glass mirrors. Very popular so don't expect a seat. Fullers Bengal Lancer on top form. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Coming from the north of England I didn't expect to be impressed with London pubs but this one is a gem. Worth going out of your way to visit.

3 Mar 2012 10:41

The Hardwick Inn, Doe Lea

A 16th cenury stone built pub on the Hardwick Estate at the exit end of the one way system on the estate. Lots of little cosy rooms and well stocked bars. Although the pub is orientated towards food it has a good selection of draught and bottled beers. I would think that it could get pretty full inside but there is plenty room outside.
The staff seemed pleasant and the service was friendly and quick. The menu was extensive and I mean extensive, good sized portions, fresh and good value. If you intend to visit Hardwick Hall you should also try this pub.

26 Aug 2011 10:01

The Lion Inn, Blakey Ridge

Very busy when we visited, full of walkers and bikers on a lovely Saturday lunchtime. A good range of beers well kept mainly Theakstons. Food good and despite the place being quite busy the service was quick efficient. The gents toilets were not up to much but I suppose they had had a lot of use that day. All in all a good pub with good food and most important the beer was on form.

10 Apr 2011 19:53

Fox and Hounds, Thorpe Audlin

Currently closed due to a fire.

29 Mar 2011 18:43

The White Horse Inn, Sharlston Common

Quite difficult to find. Beer good choice and well kept. Not a vast choice of food, standard pub fare but well cooked and presented. Perhaps not the place for a special night out but a good lunchtime stop.

27 Aug 2010 15:43

The Brampton Halt, Chapel Brampton

Well set up busy pub, keen staff. Good menu but the food quality doesn,t match the menu - a pity. Lots of lagers but the real ale limited both in choice and quality.

27 Aug 2010 15:38

The Ferry Inn, Cawood

A bit disappointing. The beer was fine but the food was below average and some dishes were off. The pub seems a bit run down and needs a good clean.

16 Apr 2010 15:13

The Castle Tavern, Scarborough

Used to be a nice little corner pub with a good public bar and lounge. Now it has been defurbished (I do mean defurbished). The cosey lounge has been turned into a tatty games room and the public bar is dismal and empty.
Dirty with beer splashes on the walls and the tables were sticky. Most important the beer (John Smiths) was in keeping with the rest of the pub

17 Oct 2009 19:59

The Cherry Tree Inn, High Hoyland

Takes a little bit to find but well worth a visit. Well kept beers and friendly service, sensibly priced menu, good value all round.

18 Aug 2009 18:56

The Red Lion, Underwood

Passed this pub on the way to a local rival establishment and seeing the car park full decided to try it if I was ever in the area again. Well I was today and I did try it. A very well organised and cared for pub, children in the play area, drinkers in the bar and eaters in the busy dining room and everybody happy on a sunny summers day. Real ales, a good range and well kept. Food, not an extensive menu but some interesting specials.

28 May 2009 19:50

The Shepherds Rest, Lower Bagthorpe

Not an easy pub to find, but well worth the effort. The decor and garden look a bit tired but the beer and food are first class.

28 May 2009 19:40

The Rose and Crown, Slaithwaite

Well here's another.

Excellent!

Great place, beer and food. Friendly welcome and great service. Hard to find in all the narrow lanes but well worth the effort. We shall go there again.

11 Apr 2009 11:19

Fox and Hounds, Thorpe Audlin

Roadside eatery, beer mainstream but well kept. Extensive menu and specials board with some interesting items. Well run and clean, service very good.

8 Apr 2009 11:09

The White Lion, Hebden Bridge

A rather dark town pub. Young staff but pleasant and attentive. Flowers Original was good but the food was only average and not all the menu items were available (it took me three choices to get a meal).

8 Apr 2009 10:46

The Wensleydale Heifer, West Witton

I'm not a fish fan myself but my wife really enjoyed her meal. This is a very serious seafood resaurant with an amazing menu and a string of deserved awards. You are made very welcome and the service is excellent.
The local beer wasn't the best I had ever tasted but it was acceptable but this is not what the Heifer is about. If you love fish you will love this place.

16 Feb 2009 19:37

The SPINDLE TREE, Stanley

This pub has gone belly up. Everyone has gone taking our deposits for our Christmas do with them.

19 Dec 2008 18:29

The Three Horseshoes, Oulton

Food better than average and good sized portions. Good Speckled Hen. The restaurant fills up quickly but diners don't seem to stay after their meal to have a drink and relax. When we finished the place was nearly empty.
The staff were hardly welcoming and not as polite as they should be. We were a party of 15 and when we ordered they required a credit card to be handed in, no real reason given so its hand it in or don't eat.
I think this pub is getting it wrong, it has been very popular but possibly its becoming complacent and forgetting that to get repeat custom it has to maintain high customer satisfaction.

19 Dec 2008 18:26

The Goat's Head, Abbotts Bromley

A pub restaurant in pretty Abbotts Bromley. Menu interesting but not extensive. The quality is very good and the restaurant has a good atmosphere. The staff are very attentive and helpful.
Very good real ales with regular guest ales and occasional beer festivals.
Well worth a visit.

19 Dec 2008 18:09

The New Wheatsheaf, Whitwood

More a restaurant than a pub but all the food is made on the premises and is very fresh.A very varied menu and good value for money. Collecting your food is a bit like school dinners but the good quality makes up for this.
The beer is standard large brewery lines and there are no guest ales but there is a good choice.

19 Dec 2008 17:59

The Gray Ox, Hartshead

Bags of atmosphere when there are plenty of people in. Good guest beers, fine pint of Sneck Lifter. Reasonable menu but a bit on the pricey side. Seemed a bit short of staff the day we went.

31 Oct 2008 18:34

The Hope and Anchor, Blacktoft

Yes quite difficult to find but well worth the effort. Wonderful location built into the humber flood bank. Very good beer and food.

21 Sep 2008 09:55

Ye Old Sun Inn, Colton

A restaurant pub with lots of space both inside and outside for drinkers and eaters, very well set out in a pretty area. Real ales very good and service efficient.

Good menu with well cooked fresh food, excellent.

A bit remote and hard to find but well worth the effort.

29 Aug 2008 09:21

The Milecastle Inn, Haltwhistle

This pub is in sight of Hadrians Wall on the Military Road.Although not imposing from outside it is cosy inside. The real ale was a bit strange and the service whilsy prompt a bit lacking in welcome.
We were going to eat there that evening and the menu looked very good but after hearing the owner threaten to kick out some customers who had the temerity to complain obout their meal we decided to book elsewhere.

16 Aug 2008 13:03

The Miners Arms Inn, Acomb

Went looking for food on a Wednesday night in Northumberland, thought we might have to manage with crisps until the morning. Eventually we were directed to the Miners Arms.
The food was fairly basic but it was fresh and the lady chef was very keen to please. The beer was very good and the welcome from the landlord and his two lovely dogs matched it.
Whilst the pub does sell food it is still a pub for locals as well.
Well worth a try if you are in the area.

16 Aug 2008 12:53

Hare and Hounds, Burton Leonard

A restaurant pub in a pretty part of North Yorkshire. A busy pub for food, not an extensive menu and a little pricey but the food was a lot better than 'pub grub'.
Not an extensive selection of beers but the Timothy Taylors was good.
Very welcoming, very good service.
If you are looking for good pub food in a welcoming atmosphere this is a place to try.

16 Aug 2008 12:43

The Black Bull Hotel, Wark

A local pub with B&B. Stayed for a couple of nights - excellent B&B, beautiful area handy for Hadrian's wall attractions. Well run bar but no real ales - a pity I think they should try some. Food only part of the week but good.

We enjoyed our stay.

14 Aug 2008 22:51

Royal George Hotel, Greenfield

A modernised pub lacking any real character with a large restaurant. Beer JW Lees OK but nothing special. Food average.

7 Aug 2008 18:50

The Fountain Inn Hotel, Ingbirchworth

Disappointing. Whilst the cask marque is proudly displayed only Black Sheep available. Didn't try the lunch menu after a very average pint. Extensive restaurant, virtually empty with no atmosphere.
The whole place seemed a bit run down.

7 Aug 2008 18:41

The Queens Head Inn, Kettlesing

Excellent little village pub on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Quite difficult to find but well worth the effort.

Mainly a food pub but the guest beers are very good also. Good menu at reasonable prices, very friendly service. Very well kept and clean. Has a few B&B rooms.

On the day we went it was pouring with rain, I should think that in good weather it would be great to sit outside in the beautiful surroundings.

3 Aug 2008 11:06

The Anglers Rest, Bamford

Visited yesterday for lunch. An impressive village pub very well set out inside, outside area a bit basic. Four guest beers, the Theakstons Black Bull was excellent. As well as catering for the passing trade it is still the local for the village.

Although the menu is not as extensive as some pubs the food was very good and fresh. The landlord and landlady are very welcoming and keen to develop the pub.

Very well worth a visit a well run pub in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside.

25 Jul 2008 09:25

The Darrington Hotel, Darrington

A chain pub suffering from many of the shortcomings of chain pubs. Beer Theakstons so cold you could get internal frost bite, totally tasteless. The staff were pleasant enough but it was obvious their heart wasn't in it.
The food was poor, I ordered the combo pie it turned out to be a microwaved catering pie served with some tinned peas and chips thrown on top. Fortunately I was with a group so we were able to take advantage of the 2 for the price of one offer, even then it was poor value.
Not recomended for beer drinkers or those with any liking for pub food.

22 Jul 2008 22:18

The Horseshoe Inn, Tatenhill

Nice location in a small Staffordshire village. A beautifully set up pub with a public bar, beer garden with animals, and restaurant. Beer - Marstons - well kept. The bar service was a bit hit and miss with only one serving.

The menu promised a lot but the food didn't quite come up to expectations.

A nice pub though, worth a visit.

22 Jul 2008 22:03

The Wheatsheaf Inn, Burn

Doesn't look much from the outside, just another run down roadside pub, but on the inside a great atmophere, good beer (3 or 4 guest beers) and good value food.

20 Jul 2008 12:27

The Jinnie Inn, Rolleston on Dove

Used to be a farm years ago now a pub/restaurant. The beer is Marston's and at least one guest beer, the beer is well kept and the service good. Good beer garden.

There is a restaurant but you can eat the same menu in the bar. The menu is not extensive but more interesting than standard bar meals. Prices a bit above average but the food is above average and the service quick.

Overall a smart country pub on the way up.

1 Jul 2008 22:05

The Shoulder of Mutton, Barton under Needwood

A relatively small pub in thr centre of Barton under Needwood. The front room (nearest the road) very cosy but some of the other rooms a bit basic. Beer - a guest beer and Marstons - good but service a bit hit and miss.

Quite extensve menu and specials, the food whilst not exotic was fresh cooked and the service was good, a little pricey.

Beer garden at the rear was really nice and in good weather it would be well worth sitting there to eat.

16 Jun 2008 13:59

The SPINDLE TREE, Stanley

Definately a pub concentrating on food, 3 rooms of tables set for food.

Two good guest beers which change every now and then. You are made to feel welome and the service is good. Car parking behind the pub a bit restricted but there is a car park across the road but beware it is a very busy road.

Wide range of food and specials all fresh cooked, good quality and fast service. Overall well worth a visit.

9 Jun 2008 11:02

Bridge Inn, Offenham

What a location! The outside seating area runs down to the Avon and there moorings for boats which I should think are packed in the summer. The beer was excellent and the food as good. Service very pleasant and quick.

They seem to be doing some renovations inside the pub and will need to do some outside as well.

Quite difficult to find but well worth the effort.

30 May 2008 12:47

The Falcon Hotel, Stratford Upon Avon

A really historic pub that is going to waste. The Oak bar is drab, dark and empty and the beer is well below average. This is totally in contrast to the rest of the hotel which is excellent

With some work this pub could be a gold mine.

30 May 2008 12:41

The Dirty Duck, Stratford Upon Avon

A pub with atmosphere especially the actor's bar. Not the cleanest or best organised but the beer was good. Between the Swan Theatre (currently being restored) and the Courtyard Theatre very much a theatre pub and busy before and after performances. Outside tables overlook the theatre gardens and the Avon.
Well worth a visit just for the theatre atmosphere.

30 May 2008 12:34

The Bubble Inn, Stenson

Disappointing. The pub is in a great position close to the canal and I would think it could be very busy in the summer and at weekends. The beer was quite good and the bar service efficient. We went for a lunchtime meal and although the menu is not extensive two out of the three choices we made were not available. The menu says it takes about 20 minutes for the meal to arrive, longer if its busy, for 20 read 40 and it wasn't busy. It was a sunny day and we sat outside, it was dirty. Shame, it used to be really nice.

30 May 2008 12:07

The Castle Inn, Cawood

Visited mid week lunchtime. Good selection of beers - well kept. Menu quite extensive and a specials board with some interesting options. Good service and decent prices. A good local pub that has room for visitors and locals.

20 Mar 2008 10:18

The Blue Bell Inn, Wentbridge

Visited at lunchtime mid-week, quite busy. Good beer. Limited menu but there is also a specials board. Food above average but service a little slow. Overall well worth a visit.
