The Thatch and Thistle, Blackrod

Called into this pub after a lovely long walk bank holiday Monday, ordered two pints and went to pay with a debit card as I was not carrying any cash, could not believe my ears when I was asked to pay an 80p charge, hang your heads in shame management that is disgusting, needless to say I did not pay and went along the road to another pub with no charge. Will not be going back.

The Black Dog, Belmont

Oh dear, who is responsible for the make over, this lovely old pub that was full of character has now been turned into err not sure what its meant to be! The decor is far to contemporary and the battleship grey paint that they must have bought as a job lot makes the place feel very cold, however on our weekly visit it was busier, but was that just out of curiosity time will tell. The pub always had a lovely cosy feel, which has now gone, very sad.

Blundell Arms, Horwich

This beautiful pub has gone from bad to worse, we had looked forward to the swing singer for a couple of months, arranged a taxi to get there early only to realise that all of the empty tables where reserved, I have been going to this pub for years and was under the impression they did not reserve, pity it did not state this on the advert. This is a pub not a restaurant and tables should not be reserved, but on a first come first served basis surely! The food is pretty diabolical, but they will continue serving it as it is packed to the rafters most weekend. Wish someone would turn it into a gourmet pub with some decent dishes, instead of the crap it churns out, but wont hold my breath.

The Jolly Crofters, Horwich

With regards to the last review, the Blundell is now owned by a similar group to the Crofters, so I bet you dont get much better service up there. We visit either one of these pubs over the weekend for a quiet drink, and they are typical of the british pub today, rubbish, however saying that I would say that the Blundell has a bigger staff turnaround and to be honest I have never had anybody n the crofters serve me in track suit bottoms!

The Black Horse, Chorley

Have been going to this pub for some years, but recently has been closed, we decided to revisit after hearing it had re opened in the summer for a drink, on entering we went to the bar and was asked if we had booked, after stating we had just come in for a drink we where made to feel very unwelcome so went and drank outside on the veranda, will not be going back. A bit of advice to the manager, welcome all your patrons, you might need us one day!

Wonderful pub, wont be here for much longer if nobody uses it tho. Pity the fires werent on New Years Eve, and dont think much to the television in the bar area. Thats what we want to get away from. Lovely child free bar area. But for how long!

Blundell Arms, Horwich

Ohh what has happened to the Blundell, the new managers just dont seem to have the same love for this wonderful pub. The lovely church candles have been changed for pitiful small ones which never get lit, toilet rolls are not replaced, this pub deserves so much love wish it wasnt owned by a chain. As for the people moaning about children. I have ate down the bottom half off the pub loads of times and its ok, isnt it lovely to be able to have a night out without screaming kids spoiling your night, there is always the Beehive if you want the kids to have fun.
