The Winter Gardens, Harrogate

One of the more characterful Weatherspoons. Tends to be busy lunchtime, if you want to eat suggest you try later. Plenty of people behind the bar but as usual many are not serving, avoiding eye contact with customers,"managing" and trying to look busy, etc! Well worth a visit and best place to eat in Harrogate for a reasonable price.

The Slug and Lettuce, Harrogate

Not the best pub in Harrogate! Drinks expensive, decor cold and functional, clientele varied. OK for watching the world go by but Weatherspoons better atmosphere and more inviting.

Montpellier, Harrogate

Went in later but I can see what the other reviewers mean, although no smell of chips or vinegar at 2.30/3.00. Older clientele, couples, nice atmosphere. Worth a visit but would probably eat at Weatherspoons as food fairly, all relative, pricey, £9-£12.

Harrogate Tap, Harrogate

Was pleasantly suprised by the interior, some character and good atmosphere. Went around 6pm so busy, but not overly. Good selection of beers. If you have a little time spare before your train well worth a visit.

Hales Bar, Harrogate

Nice quiet pub. Traditional interior, when you go in the front, only door, turn right, larger and more interesting room, if you turn left you are likely to be the only people in a fairly small room. Does food but fairly expensive( I want to pay £4-£6 for a meal so expensive is all relative, meals £8-£10) and did not see anyone eating. Lots of character and worth a visit.

The Alexandra, Harrogate

Large pub, decent service, not too busy. Nice window seat watching the cars go by. Do food but did not try it.

Banyan Bar, Harrogate

Nice new pub, no age or character, friendly and helpful bar staff. Pub a little "trendy" but worth a visit whilst in Harrogate. Few if any "real" ales!

Rainbow Inn, Wakefield

We go in at lunchtime two or three times a year for a meal. Basic good value pub food. Never very busy and mostly regulars. Keep expecting it to close but still bumbling along. Better value than nearby Weatherspoons and much easier to get served.

The Raven, Wakefield

Now open and seems very popular. Went in on a couple of evenings in mid-December and it was the busiest pub we visited. Good barstaff, pleasant atmosphere, did not see any signs of food.

Yates's, Wakefield

Went in mid-December. Very quiet, almost as many doormen as customers.

Moodys, Wakefield

Now "The Treehouse". Lots of wood!. Gone up market and got a younger, trendier clientel. Bit pricey for Wakefield but worth a visit. Does food but not my type of menu.

The Vulcan, Huddersfield

What has happened to this site. Accuracy crap! This pub is not 2/10th of a mile from the station, nor is the Head of Steam but for a very different reason!!!

Walters Bar, Hull

Not sure about this. OK for a pint, good selection of beers, but no atmosphere, cafe bar maybe unfair but not a pub.

Durty Nelly's, Hull

Character pub, but food expensive, fish and chips £10+. People(tourists) were eating but would have preferred better value menu. Went to Wilberforce Weatherspoons because of the price! Should be £6-£8. Beer good but out on a limb.
Eat elsewhere but visit for the pub atmosphere

The William Wilberforce, Hull

Fairly quiet, nice looking,ex-Bank!. Two floors, good bar staff, food good ,very enjoyable. Condiments on table, very un Weatherspoons!

The Midland Hotel, Ilkley

Always get this and next door pub mixed up, both opposite railway station and both worth a visit, generally go to both at end of afternoon on way back to train and both are worth a visit, generally quiet but some locals. Both do John Smiths, is it only me who prefers knowing what I am drinking and normally what it will taste like. This and next door both worth a visit at the end of an afternoon, evening session. No idea about food?

The Dalesway, Ilkley

Best bar food in Yorkshire(In my opinion!), may be easily pleased but very good hearty food. Big portions, well cooked, reasonable price(£7-£9), good John Smiths, what more could you want, also good view(traffic lights and cars/people)! Not normally very busy so served without delay. Eaten here several times over several years so not a one off.

The Vine Tree, Wakefield

UPDATE. Building work at the Vine Tree and planning app for kitchen and large dining room so may be making a comeback but possibly as a restaurant?

The Victoria Hotel, Outwood

Fairly popular pub, regulars. Went late afternoon and atmosphere good with regulars round bar. No sign of food at time of visit.

30 May 2015 17:07

The Queen, Wakefield

Drinkers pub. Recent new tenants. May be still settling in but a bit rough and ready but comfortable atmosphere. No food.

30 May 2015 17:02

The Woodman Inn, Wakefield

Went a week or two ago at lunch-time and ate. Food excellent, can highly recommend. Has had recent refurb, tap room now opened up to create single room. Large rear garden and childrens play area. Did not go into the garden to check seating but is probably an ideal summer afternoon family pub.

The Yard, Ilkley

Have been going here infrequently for several years and have always enjoyed the place. Could be because we tend to go mid afternoon. Generally not too busy and service good and if the weather is good the balcony/beer garden are excellent. Have not eaten but feel the food is expensive as are the drinks.

30 May 2015 15:56

The Horse and Farrier, Otley

We were only people in when we arrived(14.00 Friday 29/05/15) but warmly welcomed and barman helpful regarding cask beers. Good selection on. Worth a visit. No sign of food at time of visit. Have rooms but seemed expensive, £75 for a double( possibly my Northern tightness)

30 May 2015 15:18

The Bowling Green in Otley, Otley

One of the quainter and more characterful Weatherspoons I have been in. Worth a visit but as with all Weatherspoons a shortage of bar staff reduces the experience.Score would be higher with more bar staff

30 May 2015 15:12

The Black Bull, Otley

Quiet when we went(13.00 29/05/15) but food and staff excellent. Can thoroughly recommend if you want somewhere to eat in Otley.

30 May 2015 15:08

The British Oak, Outwood

Now closed. Turned into house or flats

10 Feb 2015 22:55

The Vine Tree, Wakefield

Now closed. It has closed before and reopened but this looks like the end!

10 Feb 2015 22:53

The Rescuers, Wakefield

Unfortunately now long gone. Knocked down, now houses!

10 Feb 2015 22:50

The Strafford Arms, Wakefield

Now appears to have re-opened. Have not been in. May be open only on a night. Live music advertised

The Elephant and Castle, Wakefield

Excellent pub. John Smiths well kept and food excellent value. Well worth a visit if you're in Wakefield and conveniently sited just opposit entrance to Westgate station.

26 Sep 2009 17:28

The Black Horse Hotel, Giggleswick

Excellent pub with a warm welcome. Staff friendly and service good. Food excellent. I had Steak pie which was very good and portions generous. Taylors Landlord and Best also John Smiths which was very good. A little out of the way but well worth the effort. Also do accommodation.
