Prince Arthur, Euston

Really nice pub, very polite and friendly service. However I had the worst Sunday roast I've ever had, actually the worst meal I've ever had
yesterday. I'll certainly go back for a drink, but feel insulted about the slop for £10.95. Had anyone asked how the food was I would have let them know!!

The Tower Tavern, Fitzrovia

Not sure what Nevermind is on about. Same staff, same landlord, samr toilets and furniture, only difference that I can see is there are now four cask ales rather than three!!

The Crown and Sceptre, Fitzrovia

Fairs fair. I'm not a fan of Castle Inn's, service usually annoys me too much. But had a late lunch here today and it was really good. Lamb Shank Shepard's pie and my friend had a Ploughman's. Very impressed, taste, presentation, everything, not quite Lukin, Conway St. standard, but as close as you're going to get. Can't quite believe I'm praising this place but as I said fairs fair. Well done.

O'Neills, Cannon Street

Bloody awful. Only person at the bar, two staff on, and it took 8 minutes to be served by a very angry girl who said, "What, do you want something". The smell in the gents stings the nostrils and eyes, but thats not as bad as the service. Maybe if they sorted the service out they wouldn't have to do full meals inc pint for 6.99. A total hole.

Adam and Eve, Fitzrovia

I've never knowingly been in this pub, but.... if you click on the map or gmap link at the top of this page it brings up a street in north Africa. I think it might be Libya. Thats got to worth an 8/10!!

14 May 2011 03:25

The Tower Tavern, Fitzrovia

Still really nice pub, seems to be getting busier. Great work local, ales IPA, Cheshire Gold and Roosters Leghorn this week.

Eurobar, Oxford

Edgy in the extreme. When Alan Partridge said, "Scum, sub-human scum", he could have been describing the clientele here. Avoid at all costs.

The Hope, Tottenham Court Road

Despite the last 2 reviews by members of staff, its still a filthy pit. Bad beer, bad service, no vampires, no blinding artwork, no tattooed staff fighting tesco trucks. Just a painfully well below average pit. Imagine a group of people who like drinking in pubs. They know nothing about how to run them. They buy one. Its The Hope. Can't see it being in business in 6 months.

Duchess , Battersea

Amazing! Amazing that all the positive reviews on here, each one of which mentions the terrace etc, are all by the same person. Owner or manager presumably. No other reviews posted about any other pub, just this one. check reviews below the five listed to see what customers think.

23 Feb 2011 18:55

The Kings Arms, Fitzrovia

I can't drink in here anymore, its just too dirty.

23 Feb 2011 18:21

The Green Man, Fitzrovia

Must have been a change of manager within the last couple of months. Remarkably cleaner and very well presented now. Even the strange smells have gone. Well done!

23 Feb 2011 18:18

The Jeremy Bentham, Bloomsbury

If I hadn't stood at the bar and watched the staff pour all the ale slops into pint glasses and then top up to order myself, I would not have believed this went on in this day & age. Such a clean well kept pub, who will serve you absolute shit to drink. Amazing.

19 Dec 2010 22:19

The Bree Louise, Euston

Don't like the look of the pub inside at all, but with a beer selection like this does anyone really care what anyone else thinks?!? Unique and deservely busy

8 Sep 2010 02:13

The Gunmakers, Marylebone

pubbunny and gunslinger: you both have only placed glowing reviews on BITE. 3 each, and of the same 3 pubs, all owned / operated by the same person. Is it you? And how stupid do you think your customers are. Good reviews about the gunmakers, fair enough, the mason's, maybe, the mortimer? HAhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. pay for an ad in the Evening Standard instead of dong this.

8 Sep 2010 02:06

The Mortimer Arms, Bloomsbury

HOLY SHIT!!!! How obvious can you be? Could this pub possilbly be owned / operated by the same person / company as the Gunmakers and the Mason's Arms's? If you check, the last 6 reviews (glowing) on here with the exception of Mr Monkfish, are from users who have also placed glowing reviews of the other two pubs, and between them not placed a single review of ANYWHERE else!!! Ooooooooops

8 Sep 2010 01:52

The Horse and Groom, Great Portland Street

Known locally by the name Doom & Gloom, I quite like it though. Really nice Sam Smiths pub.

18 Aug 2010 17:36

The Audley, Mayfair

Beautiful pub. Love it, a managed house, but a very very good one.

18 Aug 2010 15:14

The Punch Bowl, Mayfair

If you enjoy real London pubs avoid this place at all costs. The only thing they're good at is calculating a fair price and adding 50%. Snotty, pretentious, and number 1 on every dealers sat nav.

18 Aug 2010 15:10

The Prince of Wales Feathers, Warren Street

Have to say, very pleasantly surprised. A really smart job, much better than expected menu. Real quality refurb, and amazing draught selection of lagers & ales.

1 Jul 2010 15:58

The Wargrave Arms, Marylebone

Undergone a refurb in the last year. Great looking from the outside, lots of plants etc, Youngs ales on and a bigger whisky selection than Scotland. Drinking one a week it would take over two YEARS to try them all!. One word, BGA.

29 Jun 2010 00:22

The Duke of York, Marylebone

In tonight. Could be a great pub I think, but not at the minute. See windows that look like jet aircraft exhausts. Beautiful from the outside though.

29 Jun 2010 00:11

The Dover Castle, Marylebone

Absolultey gorgeous pub, spent a good eight minutes in here today and its lovely. Would perhaps give it more than 1/10 if I had have been able to get a drink......... and it wasn't busy, only one guy at the bar....... God only knows how long he was waiting.

29 Jun 2010 00:08

Windsor Castle, Marylebone

Pub or mad collectors bedroom? Did like the pub, if everyone who has a reserved plaque on the bar shows up at once it'll be a laugh unless they're all six inches wide. Service bored and uninterested, at 8 for a strongow and fosters its the most expensive bar I've ever drunk in, and with that in mind, awful value.

29 Jun 2010 00:04

The Lukin, Warren Street

Surprised no-one has commented since my last post. Now three well kept rotating ales on and truly, truly exceptional food. The only problem I've had here is that sometimes its so busy I can't get through the door, which isn't really a problem, more a compliment. Publicans take note!!!!

28 Jun 2010 23:55

The Hope, Tottenham Court Road

Possibly the dirtiest glasses in the world. Used to like this pub, however I feel that pint glasses should be pretty much see through, so I won't be going back!

24 Jun 2010 20:00

The Carpenters Arms, Tottenham Court Road

Went in on a Friday afternoon and ordered 2 pints of Blue Moon. Walked out six minutes later, still thirsty, as the four barstaff were fiddling with a credit card machine, there was no-one else waiting for drinks either.

24 Jun 2010 19:58

The Prince of Wales Feathers, Warren Street

Being turned into a Crown Inn. Thats the M&B chain that likes to come across as independant cool pubs. This will be the 6th, the other 5 are very close. The Albany, Gt Portland St, Green Man Foley St, Carpenters Arms Howland St, Crown & Sceptre Fitzrovia and The Phoenix Cavendish Sq. So expect a fantastic drinks selection terribly served and poorly microwaved Brake Bros burgers. MMMmmmmmm & B

14 Jun 2010 19:17

Ye Olde White Horse, Aldwych

Congratulations to 'The Horse' which has just won an award for best pub in London! Says it all, well done lads!

8 May 2010 12:59

The Pitcher and Piano, Holborn

I do not have the time to explain how terrible this place is.

8 May 2010 00:22

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

Obviously the last comment is from the chef!! One comment posted, all about the kitchen in this dump!!

6 May 2010 06:40

The Tower Tavern, Fitzrovia

Get past the look of the outside and you'll be pleasantly surprised. IPA, Okell's Olde Skipper and Ridley's Old Bob on at last visit, very friendly place.

16 Mar 2010 11:17

Ye Olde White Horse, Aldwych

Current selection, Landlord, Pride, Abbot and Old Speckled Hen. Standard enough, used to be Wherry, but not in the last three weeks!

23 Oct 2009 17:13

O'Neills, Newcastle

Worst O'Neill's I've been in. Very dirty and disorganised.

18 Oct 2009 01:18

The Lukin, Warren Street

Great improvements recently 2 ales on now, very good bar.

15 Oct 2009 15:57

The Harp, Covent Garden

Best real ale house anywhere. This is the place Ye Old Mitre would love to be. Everyone who works behind the bar is knowlegable about what they sell and they selll a lot!

12 Oct 2009 00:35

The Hope and Sirloin, Farringdon

One of the nicest glass frontages I've seen, georgeous curved glass etc, lovely tile work in side too. But a real dump apart from that. Real dump.

8 Oct 2009 00:59

The Fox and Anchor, Smithfield

Quality all over! Professional set up, it can be done, take note everyone.

8 Oct 2009 00:55

The Nell Gwynne, Covent Garden

In last night, polite friendly service, and while the stairs to the toilets are a bit of a nightmare there was no bad smell at all. Juke box has an OK selection and volume was fine. Not sure about the staff having Wagamama's behind the bar though.

6 Oct 2009 14:11

The Cross Keys, Covent Garden

Love this pub, not great service but efficient enough. Great boozer

3 Oct 2009 16:13

Ye Olde White Horse, Aldwych

Best pub in London.

3 Oct 2009 16:08

The Coach and Horses, Covent Garden

Always fantastic, if a bit pricey. Well done, only pub in London that gives Ye Old White Horse a run for its money!

3 Oct 2009 16:07

The Globe, Covent Garden

I believe your famous, "dirty old man","dysfunctional", "incredibly nasty landlord with an obvious Napoleon's complex", all of which i agree with has hung up his attitude and left. The big question now for the new proprieter is what to do with the paintings?? He is stuck with portraits of Hitchcock, Churchill and Henry VIII that have the previous owner, HR,'s face painted on them. Does he get his own face painted on them? Leave them as they are or get the real ones restored?? Nightmare!!

3 Oct 2009 16:06

Brogans, Fulham

Nice Irish bar full of character and frighteningly clean, I've seen dirtier hospitals. Would reccomend!

3 Oct 2009 16:00

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

No,no, no, no. Manners are essential. No fawning, or sycophantic behaviour from staff would be welcome. But apart from Dan, they are exceptionally rude, foulmouthed and nasty. And its still very very dirty.

3 Oct 2009 15:59

The George, Temple

Actually seems to have got a lot better than my last visit. Has there been a chnge of manager. Was in last sunday, very pleasant service and no nu metal!!! Fairs fair, horrible previous visit, but the last one was lovely!

3 Oct 2009 15:52

The Fountain, Islington

In last night. It was dead but there was empty Tennent's Super cans in the urinal and what looked like empty wraps on the floor. For such a famous music pub the tunes playing were awful, unless "Near Wild Heaven" by REM and "Shiny Happy People" are your cup of tea. Nice enough barman but the name of the pub doesn't do justice to how dirty it actually is.

7 Jul 2009 13:26

The Newton Arms, Holborn

Immaculatly clean boozer with fast efficient service. All good, very good. Disturbing comment by previous poster though. Have not seen any evidence of this myself and never hope to either. But from my experience, the best standards all round in London.

28 Nov 2008 01:43

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

Went back again today and can safely say its the emperors new clothes to pubs. Its OK, get a grip though.

24 Nov 2008 18:07

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

Service?? What is wrong with this bar? Is is haunted?? Is it not really their fault?? Is there some sort of curse that makes your arse swallow your head as you walk behind this bar?? Why when they walk behind this bar do people get a superiority complex?? Can't understand it. Especially when its a very very "chunky" person with a corset outside her clothes. Come on, you've had it too good for too long 7 stars. How about not being W*****S, even for a day, for charity!! You can even wear your XXXXXXL corset, blondie. Whaddayasay, correct that!!

24 Nov 2008 02:21

Old Red Lion, Holborn

Lovely, Great so long as you don't want to sit!! Good service, clean & friendly.

24 Nov 2008 02:10

The Enterprise, Holborn

Looks spectacular, the frontage and colours are class. Its very well lit, so inviting. But if you go in you'll realise its shite. If i wanted to be insulted whilst spending money I'd get the tube.

24 Nov 2008 01:57

The Perseverance, Holborn

Unloved, average, aaaaaaahh. sad.

24 Nov 2008 01:52

The Lamb, Bloomsbury

Honest enough pub. Plentiful ales on, clean, clean glassware which is getting harder to find, lovely looking pub. Nice.

24 Nov 2008 01:47

The Duke (of York), Holborn

Beautiful pub, undrinkable beer. Great atmosphere, terrible service. When you have to actually scrape a nailfull of waxy dirt out of the INSIDE of a glass at the bar before the staff, I say staff, but these were obviously movie stars just here for the night judging by the attitude and incompetance, pay attention. I always thought that if you had the balls to charge 12.95 for a burger you'd have the sense to clean your glasses and/or beer lines.

Spectatular art deco pub wasted by the people working therein.

24 Nov 2008 01:44

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

OH COME ON. ITS OK ITS NOT HEAVEN IN HOLBORN. I have gone to drink here, I have visited, I have had Lunch, I have drunk real scrumpy, I have drunk real ale. Whats the big deal?? The best thing is undoubtedly the bishops hat sign on the lamp post on Hatton Garden. This is a bog standard old boozer. How can we, as a nation, let thousands of pubs like this get quashed by big chains and pubcos, not say a word, and then treat the remaining ones like gifts from God?? Really, grow up, its just OK, the food, the beer, the atmosphere, all just OK. Which is one above the service, whilst honest and well meaning, i.e. no chavs texting in jeans, really doesn't set the world on fire.

Imagine you went to Beijing this summer for the olympics and wanted some history, some culture, some real China. You know, a taste of an ancient civilisation, and a local Chinese friend took you to the Chinese equivalent of this. Oh Dear!! In 2012, welcome world, have a warm pint in this unremarkable but unique pub. Is this the pinnacle of Englishness?? No, its a decent pub down an alley, stop talking like its the best pub in heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

24 Nov 2008 01:30

The George, Temple

Previous review obviously by staff or company employee. Once this place gets sold and changes hands and the ignorant arrogant incompitent staff are gone, then visit, its a great building, but at the moment its a godawful place. #worst service in london.

2 Oct 2008 00:07

The Seven Stars, Chancery Lane

I agree with all comments about charm and history etc. What I can't believe is no-one has mentioned the dirt. This is by far the most filthy pit I have ever seen considering the extortionate prices maybe the odd wipe here and there might not be out of order. and has ANYONE ever ever EVER got a clean glass in here???

28 Jun 2008 18:42

Ye Olde White Horse, Aldwych

I got lost a few weeks ago behind the Peacock Theatre, and I'm glad I did because I stumbled upon this gem. 4 ales on tap, Timothy Taylor, Wherry, 6X, & Brakspear. Timothy Taylor excellent. Apparently its recently changed hands and there were two great Irish chaps behind the bar, which at first struck me as strange in a proper old London pub, but they know what they're doing!! A great eclectic character pub with a very warm welcome and a lot of personality, the pub & the Irish guys!! Good mix of clientel also. Sick of souless chain pubs, this is the answer! I'll be back!!!
