The Sutton Arms, Sutton

Cockroaches on the bar! And the staff couldn't give a damn.

Avoid.

The Cardinal, Victoria

An excellent restoration.

The Blue Boar, Abingdon

It DOES sell Real Ale... other than that, the other comments are pretty fair.

Brewery Tap, Abingdon

Now that's a good pub!

CASK Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico

It's a good pub. It's 100 times better than it used to be. The beer is well kept, and the selection is great. The staff are great. Very enthusiastic. Sometimes as enthusiastic as a newt. But beware. Some of the beef is very expensive, and if you don't ask, you won't be told!
Go there, enjoy it, but ask questions.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What's happened to the Tup?
The staff are poor, the place is dirty, and the beer quality is variable.

The other day, I was presented with two pints of beer that you couldn't see through, and was then told that there was nothing wrong with it - by two bar staff. Eventually, one of the more experienced ones came along, took one look at it, and told the others to change it. The replacement ones were a bit better... but needed topping up. Topping up is normally done politely, and with good grace. Not in the Tup. It was done grudgingly, with another one of the staff telling her friend not to top it up, as it SHOULD have 10% head.

It's all a terrible shame, as the Tup is generally a good pub. The manager also seems to know what he is doing, when he can be bothered to do it. Sadly, the rest of his staff deserve the sack.

The Horseshoe Inn, London Bridge

WEnt there last weekend. Football was on, but that's no excuse for bad service. Staff just didn't seem to care.
And the beer quality was poor - little bits of yeast in the London Pride.
A great disappointment.

The Charles Dickens, Southwark

Always a disappointment...

A great selection of beers, often served out of condition.

On Wednesdays they have a quiz - and turf you out of your seets for regular teams - een if you were there before the reserved signs went out. How rude!

Hate to advise avoiding the pub - but that's lift. If they pulled their socks up a bit, it would be great!

Cheers c(_) !!

Well well well... a mixed bag of reviews recently! And for good reason! It's not as good as it was, but it's not that bad, and still the best in the area.

The beer (real ale) selection is not as extensive as it was, but it's not bad, and the quality is excellent.

The staff aren't as attentive - too much gossipping behind the bar, and they're not as experienced. Shame. Always seems better when the licensee is around.

Cheers c(_) !!

The Mad Hatter Hotel, Southwark

Nice pub... Excellent beer, friendly staff.

Shame the food is so overpriced. The other day I was served a pie that was cold in the middle - but it was changed without fuss for a warmer one (not piping hot though).

The Three Stags, Lambeth

I don't understand the sudden spate of reviews since the end of August... has the landlord been persuading customers to post reviews? The strange thing is that they're all positive - the earlier ones seemed to be negative...

Anyway, went in there the other day - still gloomy, still dreadful service, and they've started stacking CLEAN glasses on the bar again - this happened for a time earlier in the year, but thankfully stopped (it can't be very hygenic can it?).

Shame about the place - should be so welcoming, but just isn't friendly enough.

The Lyric, Soho

Popped in for a drink a few months ago and was impressed! So went back for Sunday lumch and was very impressed. Roast beef was good quality and perfectly cooked. Exceptional! And ggreat value... and the service was friendly and welcoming.

Highly recommended.

The Three Stags, Lambeth

Under the previous management the Three Stags was always friendly and welcoming (despite rather too many "reserved" tables), and while the real beers weren't great, the prices were reasonable, the atomsphere good, and the food more than acceptable.

Since its recent transformation it has become dark and unwelcoming (both literally and figuratively). The beer is better kept, and the range of lagers excellent, but this is let down by the aloof attitute of the staff and management, and the over the top pretentious (and pious) food.

It's also often too dark to read a paper, and the tables too crowded to walk around. Oh, and they don't encourage drinking at the bar, preferring to use it to stack (clean) glasses! A great shame.
