The Black Horse, Bean

My wife and her friends popped in to watch the rugby on a Sunday afternoon, thus prompting the single post unpleasant pub experience theyve ever had (Ive had worse but then Ive been to a lot of bad pubs not to mention the last time I was in this one). The barman was inept and a coward, the lager was warm and possibly infected and the clientele were boorish, idiotic and quite openly racist.
Two of our friends happen to be not Eng-er-lish and were quickly reminded of the fact. I quote Fuck off back to where you came from, Dont you have TV where youre from? Why are you in here anyway? The TV was then unceremoniously and confrontationally switched off. My wife and her friends wisely made the decision to Fuck off back to where they came from Longfield. How ridiculous of them to think about going to a pub to have a couple of pints and watch sport. How very un-English.

The Selkirk, Tooting

Worse than it should be. Wandle ales on tap not in the best condition. Overly complicated menu, poorly executed. I've never seen so many dishes that required smoked haddock. Cramped too, with the usual plethora of large empty tables with reserved notices on them.

The Red Lion, Barnes

Despite the mediocre rating, this is a good pub. All the Fuller's beers, inc. the porter which is a rare gem and a nice cosy atmosphere made for a most pleasant evening.

The Spencer Arms, Putney

Attempted (but not quite succeeded) gastro pub. Populated by mothers and their preteen infants the afternoon we attended. Black Sheep was tasty though

The Bricklayers Arms, Putney

So much Timothy Taylor Beer, so little time.
Serendipitous find but what a find. Dark , cosy and lots of beer

The Malt Shovel, Dartford

Wonderful, well-run Young's pub just far enough away from the centre of Dartford. We go for the quiz on Mondays and there's an excellent outside area and a super conservatory making it comfortable and spacious. Young's bitter, Special and Winter warmer (superb) as well St Austell Tribute all lovely. Never had the meals but I can vouch for the peanuts. Simplicity itself.

The Golden Heart, Nettleton Bottom

Popped in to take a break from the traffic on the A417 and was greeted with a beautiful old fashioned pub. My group took our pints of Festival Gold into the garden which was just perfect with a nice view and a bonkers dog. We were so impressed we booked a table for lunch for our return journey a few days later.

A few days later, lunchtime was busy but we enjoyed a tasty if quite basic pub lunch and some more Festival Gold that soothed our hangovers .

Mixed reviews below , and despite aspirations this is no gastro-pub and probably never will be but it's a nice boozer and a perfect place to stop off for a pint and a ploughmans.

The Albert Arms, Elephant and Castle

Popped in for a pre-gig drink on a cold wet November evening and this was just the ticket. A cosy welcoming corner pub with a split bar and lounge and an nice rundown feel that is a good thing in my view. Decent Hobgoblin and Oxford Gold on tap and service was pleasant. Seems to be aimed for the students and there were some, all drunk and stupid but I wasn't deterred and won't be in future.

White Cross, Sidcup

A really cosy pub with nice old fashioned pub food and very good beer. Very friendly staff and dog friendly too. Downside is that it's a bit isolated for the casual visitor.

The Kings Arms, Waterloo

Spacious back street pub near but slightly out of the way from Waterloo Station. Sectioned off inside, plenty of space although lots of reserved tables. Got very busy later in the evening but found barstaff skilled, professional and pleasant. Doombar and Pride on and both very good, Heineken a bit tart/metallic. I shall be returning. Still uses beermats too!

The George Inn, Gravesend

"No music" comment out of date. Extremely loud jukebox making conversation difficult. No ales on and the kronenbourg was rank. Slightly scary regulars, staff was friendly enough. The pool table was old and irregular making play interesting. A disappointment although there is a sex shop next door for those so inclined.

The Rum Puncheon, Gravesend

A truly great experience. Unassuming pub from the outside, beautifully decorated inside, spacious and welcoming. Six ales on when I visited including Pride, Dark Star Pale Ale, Gravesend Shrimpers, TEA and Moorhouse's Old Boss. A quality selection. Without doubt the sweetest pub in Gravesend.

The Black Horse, Bexley

Lucky enough to call this my local, this was the Bexley CAMRA Runner-Up Pub of the Year 2008, presumably runner up due to the lack of pump space.
Well kept Courage throughout the year with Landlord and Doom Bar on last time I was in and all very good value. A dog friendly pub which is becoming a rarity.

The Woolpack, London Bridge

Good pub, wonderful staff. This pub is one of the few dog friendly pubs in central London (try the Anchor Tap also) and as a dog owner, that pretty much guarantees my custom. A pleasant pint of Old Speckled Hen last time I visited.

The Anchor Tap, Tower Bridge

A pub with everything! Cheap Sam Smith's beer, plenty of space, loads of rooms, dartboard, pool table and a cribbage peg board. Combine that with cheerful, competent staff and a decent curry house across the road and you've got a sweet ,unassuming pub that roasts my chicken.

Shebu, Shepherds Bush

Formerly the Bluejay Jazz Lounge, the appallingly named Shebu, was both hit and miss.
Pleasant interior, lots of sofas, not too packed, though the incompetent barstaff gave me excuses why the couldn't make six different cocktails from their "extensive list". " Got no Chambord, mate". With bottle of Kronenbourg in hand,I enjoyed my night there nonetheless.

The Railway, Mortlake

The refurb has done the trick, Non-smoking dining area, and a selection of good ales like Tanglefoot and Badger make this a excellent evening out Seems to be run by kids on work experience, no bad thing given the music and keen, friendly service. You'll never have to go to the Ship again.

The Ship, Mortlake

What a truly terrible pub! The food looked terrible, the decor was late 60's, the service was shockingly bad and it was just full of workers from the brewery next door clogging up the place. Do not ever go. Visit the Railway near the station

The Windmill, Brixton

Good music, awful venue. Cramped, and badly laid out, the stage should be 3 meters to the left instead of tucked away behind the bar. I've had better experiences at the Mean Fiddler?!

The Goldhawk, Shepherds Bush

I really like this place, spacious, plenty of seats and the selection of beer is eclectic and different, and well served. my only gripe is that that it only gets anywhere near lively on one night per week : Quiz night on Mondays, which incidentally is a great quiz, not your avegage pub quiz and an incredible cynical MC.
