The Griffin, Shoreditch

This pub is a cesspool. The place has to be seen to be believed.

Honestly, I'm not one normally to criticise a fatigued look in a premises, but this place has probably not been cleaned since the Kray twins were in nappies. There is a faint look of a wild west saloon about the decor, dust in all the corners - positively furring up some features - unspeakably foul toilets, and a carpet which is matted thick with black hard matt excresence - built up of many years loving neglect.

In reality this should be on some tourist trail as to what pubs were like in war-time East London. Get inoculated before you enter.

The Wheatsheaf, Tooting Bec

Not a bad pub by any means. It certainly isn't Claridges, but doesn't pretend to be anything it's not.
Good for live music and karaoke, serves a nice pint of Guinness, and most of the regulars are friendly enough.

The Rose and Crown, Tooting Bec

This really is a great pub.

-Friendly staff
-Superb landlord and landlady
-Well-kept beer
-Good juke box
-Big screen sports with great atmosphere (free sandwiches at half time)
-No trouble

What more could you ask for?

The Smoke Bar And Diner, Tooting

Post-Modern drinking hole for Braying Yuppies.
Is this is a sign of Tooting Bec's gradual slide into 'gentrification' a la Clapham?
Customers seemed to be a mix of City boys and pony-club sloaney girls.
The staff were rude telling one punter to stop smoking a cigar, because they have a "no cigar policy". Weird or what? especially considering the name.
