The Cherub Inn, Dartmouth

We have been holidaying in the Devon area for years and we decided to take a 2 week break in the south hams area (totnes) for a change. We are huge pub goers and have taken in almost 3 or 4 a day, eating at many of them. We came to the cherub for lunch early on in our break and had been itching to go back, but we like to visit places only once a holiday. This time was different. We took our friends there for a meal on saturday night (12th dec). What a place! My wife had lemon sole and couldnt stop talking about how well it was cooked. My friends were saying this place has new owners. We sought to seek them out and were greated by 2 of the youngest owner/managers i've seen. I told them what a wonderful pub they have and that I will be letting BITE website know. We sat and had a drink with the chef/manager afterwards and couldnt believe how unaware he was as to how good his food was and seemed a little short of confidence. I never got his or his wifes name but if you ever get to see this, WELL DONE you made our holiday, and thank your staff for making us so welcome.

The Nobody Inn, Doddiscombsleigh

how over rated is this place? Yes you may have more whiskeys than the whole of scotland put together but the basics of running a pub should be achived 1st. Living on previous reputation alone will not last long. Ham, Egg and Chips. Pub grub but done right its the perfect pub lunch. Hard over cooked eggs, Re-fried frozen chips and poor ham. Im no chef but I can achive slightly better. My Beer was good but not worth traveling through the back of beyond for it. I found this place via eat out in teignbridge mag. Its amazing what a glossy add can tart up.

The Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe in the Moor

Ruggle sums this up. Fantastic!!!! Even in the cold and rain this place feels right. Even the geese seem to like the place. The pub in widdecombe. Gone the days though that this is a virtual unknown pub. Fantastic Dartmoor straight from the barrel

The Old Inn, Widecombe in the Moor

What on earth has happened here? ANSWER!!! Hall and Woodhouse is whats happened. Took my wife out to what a said was a fantastic old place that does a wonderful sunday lunch. Based on a few years ago. How are Big pubco's allowed to do this? Avoid at all costs. Walk down to the rugglestone inn just down the road. I reckon they must be over the moon with this change.

The Two Mile Oak, Abbotskerswell

A quick pit stop here then on home to totnes. 1st time and now the last. We walked in the door to find nobody behind the bar. When service arrived I was presented with a very warm, flat, cloudy pint of otter. The bar person had done a houdini on me so I left to never return. It was early so I asume it must havebeen the 1st pint of the day. Little tip:- Pour of a pint nefore service.

The Blue Anchor Inn, Teignmouth

The locals of the Ship were correct, this is a crackin pub. What a pub! Local brew after local brew. All in tip top condition. Its only a small edge of town pub but the place was packed full of Proper beer drinkers. Would have loved to stay but our train home to Totnes was going to leave us behind. The best pub in the town by a mile. A hidden gem we could so easily have past it by. Well done.

The Ship Inn, Teignmouth

Busiest pub in the town but the locals all crowd around a very small table and talk at the top of there voices. Moaning about everything and anything. We had to move to the other end of the bar because of it. We got talking to some other loacls in the pub and they told us it used to be busier but that table of Loud landlord freinds has put an end to it. They recommende The Blue Anchor. Shame because the Otter ale was the best pint we had in the town so far. Nice looking pub, just intimidating locals.

Ye Old Jolly Sailor, Teignmouth

It claims to be the oldest pub in the town. Not a bad pub at all. Nice pint of Local brew from Red Rock Brewery. Well kept and the best pint of the town to this point.

The Devon Arms, Teignmouth

The most terrible pub of our visit. The pub is a good looking locals bar inside but the beer and staff are as disgusting as each other. Nice real fire though. Never again.

Dicey O Reilly, Teignmouth

Lively and funny Irish landlord. Not a bad pub, just not a beer drinkers pub. Id imagine it a busy place at weekends.

Kings Arms, Teignmouth

Good pub. Tucked away so only locals must use it. Friendly landlord and good beer. Would have stayed but Teignmouth has a lot of pubs to get through.

Brass Monkey, Teignmouth

Our train trip to Teignmouth took us to our 1st pub of the day. A Locals pub that welcomed us with a crowd of smokers in the doorway. horse racing on tv's behind the bar was a strange one. We had a pint of St Austell beer. Beer was good it was company that put us off.

Kings Arms, Strete

A food led pub. Certainly not a loacls pub. should be as its only pub in the village. The food was fantastic though. We had the salmon which beautiful. I f only they sold a good real ale.

The Waterman's Arms, Ashprington

Not worth getting lost for! We stopped for lunch as part of our holiday after a recommendation from our hotel in dartmouth. Really!! It took us an hour to find the place, when we did we thought it was a wonderful looking place with a country river in front. This is where the joy ended. On entering this deadly silent pub, we were greated by a slobbery dog and large branch. No sign of barman/anyone. After a while some lad in an untucked shirt, comedy (jack duckworth) glasses and skinnt tie (top button open) muttered the words "yeah what can i get you?" A map to the next pub please. Terrible. We didnt stya for food. Shame because the pub was a looker.

The Dolphin, Dartmouth

an absolute joke of a pub. They poured our beers from a can. Is this allowed? The locals seemed fine with this. We quicley left and wont be back. I assume the brewery have stopped this pubs account if not I cant see any positive from selling canned beer.

The Cherub Inn, Dartmouth

amazing little pub, though it was hard to find. cracking beer, local beers from the devon amd cornwall area. I tried the doom bar (sharps), and also had some of there otter ale. Very good. My friend was on the proper job. A golden ale from cornwall. Not my cup of tea but then i like my ale dark. We also had lunch there and this was excellent. Potted Crab from the dartmouth area. It seems this pub is all about locals and local Food & Drink. Though even as tourist i was made to feel very welcome from the customers and bar staff. Cracking pub off the beaten track. Will be back.
