The Lower Red Lion, St Albans

Not the same pub anymore, the quality of the ales offered is highly variable, still some very good beers but also some poor ones. It seems to depend if Wolves are playing on a saturday. No more cellar runs after 7pm which is a shame as the best beers are down there.
Beer seems to be 10-20p more per pint than other pubs in the town and the atmosphere is slowly disappearing.
Absolute shame as this pub was the standard on how to operate a quality free house to suit all ages and tastes.

Three Hammers, St Albans

Still going strong with a good selection of real ales with constant rotation.
They now do a grill night on Tuesday's from 5pm with steak and pint or real ale (under 4.1%) for 5.99.

Swan, St Albans

We were served awful pint of London Pride and after complaining to Fullers it emerged they were using a Polypin.
Not really nice inside either and poor service levels, one to miss.

The Boot, St Albans

The pub is excellent as far as beer and clientle are concerned, but even as a smoker myself, it was very smokey in there.

Always a good selection of beers and a lively atmosphere and smack in the middle of town and open until midnight.

The same team run the Verulam Arms a few hundred yards away and know how to run a good pub

The place is much better since Cilla took over, always a couple of good ales on and the food is not bad for Microwaved stuff.

Bar staff need dragging into this century but overall not a bad place for a few pints
