St Marys Vaults, Stamford

Definately an old time pub, but that gives it a certain charm. It is like stepping back in time 40 years or so, I like it. Samuel Smith beers only, which although not highly regarded are perfectly drinkable. The Best Bitter is nice. I have not tried the food here so can't comment. All in all a nice , quiet little pleasant pub.

Golden Fleece, Stamford

I have only been to this pub on a Thursday night when it is very busy. The kareoke is hilarious, some people take it seriously, some don't. It can get very crowded though. Beer is ok and reasonably priced, they do a nice pint of Everards Tiger in here. Recommended.

The Otters Pocket, Stamford

I like this pub. Good for watching rugby, football etc and the staff & clientele are very friendly. Good choice of real ales & posh lagers. Haven't tried the food so can't comment. Recommended.

The Grapes, Stafford

Went to The Grapes the other night. First time after the re-fit. Looks a lot better inside, but it does seem to have lost a bit of it's old character. The staff were friendly enough and it didn't take long to get served even though it was jam packed. Beer was good, even had real ale on. Had a nice pint of Black Sheep (dip). Overall an improvement on the old pub. Recommended.

The Staffordshire Bull, Stafford

Great pub, friendly polite staff, food is very good value (2 steak dinners for 10). Decent quiz on a Thursday night with cash prizes. Most Saturdays there is a live act on. Highly recommended for a night out.

Picture House, Stafford

This is a typical Wetherspoons pub, some people like them, some people don't. Cheap drinks & food, steady custom throughout the day. Busy evenings from Thursday till Saturday. Obviously no music. It can be a bit of a struggle to get served on busy nights, but pesistantly waving a 10 note in the air often works. Occasionally this pub smells a bit like a sewer, this is due to the river outside I believe. Just something to be aware of, I'm assured it's not the clientele!!! :) Most people go here for their pre-Chicago Rock drinks.

The Lord Nelson, Stafford

Extensive cocktail menu, cheap prices too. Quite a young clientele, Thursday & Saturday nights are heaving. Music is so-so, sounds like the barstaff just put on what they fancy. Decent pool table to the rear of the pub & a posh TV too, though I doubt it ever gets watched for sports etc. Beer garden is a bit dismal & I've never seen it used. Good starter pub for a crawl further into town. Word of caution though, don't be too noisy/cheeky etc when leaving as the local cop shop is right across the road!
