The Pride of the Valley, Churt

What a fantastic pub this is! It is an oasis in the sea of average pubs. It has a warm, welcoming feeling, the staff were great, especially the Polish waitress who served us. We felt very welcome and so was our little dog, he was even offered a bowl of water.
There was a formal dining room which looked beautiful but we decided to eat in the bar (no dogs in the dining room) which was great. Plenty of local people, nice atmosphere and great food which was very reasonably priced. Why this place was not busting at the seams with people I just don't know but we will definitely be regulars here.

The Good Intent, Puttenham

Over the past two months we've visited this pub about six times and have finally found a great local pub. There are no horrible fruit machines or music, just locals enjoying a good night out around the fire. We've also eaten there a few times as well and have been very impressed, especially with the Wednesday night fish and chips - full marks, excellent!

The Mill at Elstead, Elstead

I totally agree with Captainpub's review. Nothing more to say but I'll rate it in-between so I've given it a 3.

The Donkey, Tilford

We went along to see what the pub was like one week night just before Christmas. A cute pub, friendly staff and average food however the soup was disgusting. It was definitely from a packet. Thin, watery and that 'packet' taste. Over-all the The Donkey is a nice pub, nothing great but very friendly.

The Cyder House Inn, Shackleford

We have recently moved to Surrey and discovered this village and the Cyder House Inn had only just opened after a refurb.
We loved the quirky decor and the feel of the place, a nice change from some of the truly ugly pubs around these days.
We made an effort to speak with the staff and ask lots of questions and found everyone to be friendly and helpful. We had a bar snack and thought the food was good and had been prepared with thought, using local produce although I must say, the way the menu is written is a bit weird.
A week or so later we went back for dinner and although the meal was ok it was nothing more than that, just ok but we felt the prices were London prices and the food just didn't quite match up.
We went back for another shot last week but guess what? The place was shut with a little note on the door saying "closed for staff party"!!!!!!!!! I almost fell over!!!! Can you believe that and even telling paying customers they had closed the place for that purpose! Totally stupid idea guys. New pub, coming up to Christmas and you do that! Customers are your bread and butter but you turned them away that night to entertain staff. I ask myself, will they be open next December? The food isn't that great to be so arrogant - good luck, you're going to need it, in case nobody has told you - next year is going to be tough!
