The Litten Tree, Old Street

Went to this pub to watch the football the other day. I think they must have be growing bananas in the cellar as the temperature was stifling.
I had an okay time and spent time talking to a very strange bearded gent called itchey.... other than that the pub reminds me of an old cinema lobby serving shit beer and cheap but nasty food......my mate the loins of bunhill row goes there friday to pick up young ladies from the local guineess trust.

The Bar Aquarium, Old Street

This bar is the pits and is to be avoided.

The Tabernacle Bar & Grill, Old Street

Not a great bar , i live nearby and have only been in here once or twice as i think the place is too expensive for what it is.
PIYA PIYA in city road is the same overpriced and catering for the out of townies that descend on this areaat the weekends to go out.

The week is a good time to go as it is more comfortable, weekends are a nightmare.

The Dove, Bethnal Green

Good little boozer used to drink there in 1998 when i lived in Bethnal Green. decent beer and good atmosphere. agree with the unisex toilet idea as i know what dirty animals some blokes and women are when using the khazi. staff should keep the facilities spotless but they never do .......hope they wash there hands

Mary Janes, Aldgate

chav city ...good in the afternoon but the freaks come out at night .......

17 Sep 2008 14:45

The Jamaica Wine House, Bank

try the far end bar to get served ..not the main its a lot easier to get a beer. I like this pub lots of history and good looking birds behind the ramp. food is served in generous portions and is really good quality ..salt beef sandwich is a must try.....one of the citys best watering holes.

17 Sep 2008 14:42

The Bull, Bishopsgate

i agree with the other reviews ...went there last week with a group of mates. They used to sell lots of different brews now you are limited to Peroni which i think has something to do with a connection to the italian pizza place across the way.....the owners may be the same.....shame ..decor is better than before and the shitter is a major improvement but its too plastic and the range of beers is a let down ....used to be a good pub for a couple of beers on the way home.

17 Sep 2008 14:19

The Mail Coach, Bishopsgate

what has everyone got against suits...do they make the beer taste different? ...get over your problem with the suited and booted and drink more beer ...you wont notice them then .... or go to an area without suits ..I.E not the city !!!!

17 Sep 2008 14:07

The George and Vulture, Bank

expensive food ..indifferent service and not as good as simpsons and its not a pub.........

17 Sep 2008 14:02

The Elephant, Fenchurch Street

Great pub for insurance brokers to skive in during the afternoon ....and also to listen to former AIG employees whinging about the good old days ....cheers !!! and the beers pretty good here too.....good regular glugging pub

17 Sep 2008 13:59

The Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street

oh and another thing ........thats me outside in the picture with a can of special brew watching spuds go by .............

8 Sep 2008 18:07

The Crosse Keys, Bank

The only london spoons pub worth drinking in ...good selection of beers and polite staff..(rude aggressive Hamilton hall staff note) and housed in a stunning old banking hall. food cheap and cheerful..not to my taste but serves as a filler when having a session. if only wetherspoons pubs could all be like this ...

28 Aug 2008 23:19

The Fox and Anchor, Smithfield

forgot to mention ...the tankards do seem a bit short on the capacity ....could take your own pint glass in there.....sure they wouldnt mind.......

26 Aug 2008 14:05

The Fox and Anchor, Smithfield

i had a few pints in this pub yesterday and feel that this could well be a future favourite for sunday lunchtime. The beer here is well kept (Admans regatta) and they stock a varied selection of beers and ciders. The pub is more geared up for food with this reflected on a varied menu which looks fantastic. The reviews of the food (on the wall) are certainly favourable. Staff are friendly and keen to please and the place has been given a makeover without losing its character of which it has bags of........ Really nice pub -restaurant .....

The Crown, Borehamwood

the red lion was opposite the film studios and used to enjoy customers including film stars such as richard burton and liz taylor in the early years.
We used to knock around with a bird called zoe whose old man was the landlord in the late 80'S by then it was full of the local piss heads

11 Aug 2008 14:32

The Shooting Stars, Borehamwood

my grandad used to drink here in the 6o's ....sounds like the friendly welcome is still there for people that dont belong in those parts... have they still got that piano in there that stops when you walk through the door.....

11 Aug 2008 14:25

The Railway, Radlett

shame this closed to cater for all the rich locals
........surely they had enough pizza houses

11 Aug 2008 14:20

The Golden Heart, Shoreditch

I agree with other users that the service can be very slow when its busy. This pub has been run by the same couple Sandra and Dennis for many years (early 80's) and they have weathered the storm since the market closed and turned the business into a profitable concern through hard work.

I love going in there to people watch because you never know whats going to happen one minute to the next.....with all the local freaks and floppies coming in there to try and meet their heroes smelly pete Doherty et al ... makes it far more interesting than a all bar one and other shite chain pubs with their sterile, boring sameness.

its a different kind of pub .... visit it and try it out for yourself ...

11 Aug 2008 14:17

The Bald Faced Stag, Burnt Oak

Gavin lamb isnt as gorgeous as me !!!!

11 Aug 2008 14:04

The Masque Haunt, Old Street

This pub caters for the hardcore drinkers who queue up outside waiting for he doors to open. Stella Artois and a cheap fry up seems to be the order of the day at 9a.m

The drinks here are cheap and it does exactly what is says on the tin (tennants super) provides incredibly cheap booze for people that drink all day..

Not my local but alright if we have an early game at the weekends and want to get fuelled up with all the old boys in the pub beforehand. Wouldnt take my missus in there........or yours....

11 Aug 2008 13:57

The Peasant, Clerkenwell

oh do watch out for those nasty geezers that call ladies darling !!!! how terribly common.....sorry mate but thats all part of the rich tapestry of a proper london pub....whats so offensive about calling a lady darling? ..actors do it all the time ....
This is a great pub with a extensive range of beers.
Clerkenwell is fortunate and has lots of good pubs.

7 Aug 2008 14:01

The Royal Oak, Bethnal Green

agree that this place is a bit over priced ..however nice selection of beers ...food okay ..worth a visit if you are feeling flush. lots of arty types and people with kids in there on sundays.

7 Aug 2008 13:40

The Birdcage, Bethnal Green

i have been to this pub many times when visiting columbia road flower market. Its a great true east end pub and the landlord and staff welcomes all. The staff are friendly and you can have a good laugh with them. ( Please note chain pubs, these people have a personality).

7 Aug 2008 13:35

The Griffin, Shoreditch

The carpet in this pub is the nastiest stickiest piece of old rag i have ever trod on ...its gross.
Beer here is okay and the clients are the usual hoxton trendy public school boy types pretending they are from the hood.............great place to get pissed....and vomit ....

6 Aug 2008 18:12

The Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street

nasty horrible pub ..great for winos and people having affairs before they go home to the wife. full of spuds at weekends ...cheap and cheerful thats why the place is packed.

6 Aug 2008 18:06

Kings Stores, Bishopsgate

Not a bad pub ..the landlord is a friendly chap and his wife is lovely.
We like drinking outside in the summer and enjoy people watching( young trendy types with floppy heads (jeans round there ankles, pants showing, got dressed in the dark look )
This pub is not bad but they are not big on real ales.....

5 Aug 2008 17:51

The Sir Paul Pindar, Bishopsgate

have to agree this pub is like the very worst suburbian pub in the worst area. Nasty horrible dump and the lack of a bar of soap in the mens tells you a lot .... its cheap ..but then so is everything about this place.

5 Aug 2008 17:30

All Bar One, Houndsditch

worst pub i have ever had the misfortune to go in. Rude staff who sneer at you when you ask for your order to be taken. Crap food and the orders were all wrong when they arrived. All Bar one hang your head in shame. avoid like the plague until they address the rude staff that work there. Message to the staff Find other jobs and stop inflicting your unhappiness on the customers.

5 Aug 2008 14:59

The Artillery Arms, Old Street

This is my favourite local pub and for good reason ....great beer, peaceful, friendly bar staff (whatever other reviewers have said). I have made lots of friends from this pub and from different walks of life. This is what a good local pub should be, a great social club and somewhere to have a few pints and relax in away from the stresses and strains of life in the city. best pub in ec1 area.
