nice friendly pub. ales include brakespears and a guest ale.
open fire in the winter and a good size garden for the summer.
The food is very good. I would recommend this pub if your in the area.

this pub is open again.
more of a gastro style food menu which I haven't tried so cannot comment on.
Good selection of ales and friendly staff at the bar. Nice decor inside and seating available outside in the summer.

Saw a live band in here last week. It's the first time I've ever been in this pub and I will be back.
Great atmosphere and a good range of drinks at the bar.
Its a large pub with plenty of staff so we didn't have to wait long at the bar.
Looks like they have live bands on every couple of weeks- you can check this out on Lemonrock as the pub doesn't have a website.

One of the last places left in Reading where you can listen to some good rock and metal music. Look out for live bands playing here.
Never seen any trouble in this pub despite some bad press this place has had in the past.
Cheap prices at the bar and friendly staff.

The Purple Turtle, Reading
This used to be a good venue for music. It was Readings best rock and metal music pub. (With drum and bass downstairs.)
Drinks were the usual town centre bottles and pumps so nothing special. It has now been refurbished so it became popular with the chavs of Reading.
I hear the decor is now impressive but I cannot bring myself to listen to the awful music that is now played.
The day I heard Beyonce and Ronan Keating being played in the Turtle was the last day I went in there.
