The Town House, Ely

Best avoided like the plague Friday and Saturday after 9pm when the disco and screen wash drinkers get started. HOWEVER, go when it's quite and you may be surprised. There beer (3 or 4 real ales) is nearly always tip top (a little word in the bar staffs ears to say that it's not a speed competition when they are pulling a pint would be worth it). There is a good beer festival in the garden every july and whilst not my fave place I do pop in there to see what beer is on from time to time for a change of scene (most oftern before eating in the fab Indian restaurant "The Sylhet" over the road.

The Jolly Sailors, Brancaster Staithe

Lovely little pub greatly improved sine the owners of the White Horse down the road took it over. However they do not brew thier own beer now I beleive that is brewed by Iceni brewery and to tell you the honest truth I thought it was a bit "thin" and not quite as good as it used to be when the brewery was at the pub. Brign back the Old Les - my fave. However the rood is good and the smoked fish calzone pizza a dream!

The Lord Nelson, Burnham Thorpe

Lovely little pub with great beer served straight from the barrell. Bar food a little pricey but always good as is the restaurant food.

The Lifeboat, Thornham

We have been drinking in the Lifeboat regularly since 2004 and we have never had a bad pint of beer there in all that time. There is always one guest hand pump and the quality is always top notch for all of the beer there (Wherry, IPA, Abbott, Adnams and others). The bar food is a little on the pricey side but again, we have never been disapointed. It does get busy in the summer with the "Up From Londoners" splashing the cash but the lovely thing about this place is that it still remains a local for the locals too - we love it!

The Fountain, Ely

Last time I went in the land lord was rude and there were children running about all over the place - not condusive to a "wind down" pint after work on a Friday.

The Prince Albert, Ely

Don't take any noitice of the "pensioner" comments they are not true. This has recently changed hands and has new management. The beer remains excellent and now the PA is open all day and offers and extended menu too. Well worth a try - good beer and good food - a haunt for many local CAMRA memebrs.
