The Jubilee, Glossop

1966-72 vintage newtown-style building with open-plan interior. Can get a pint a bit cheaper than some other places. Hub for local blokes following sport. Live music on Saturday nights.

Friendship Inn, Glossop

Major renovation in recent months to drive away the sport-centric regulars and attract the pro-smoking-ban types. The air of an old cricket clubhouse has been exchanged for that of a country speed-dating venue that could appear in 'Emmerdale'.

The Red Lion, Porthmadog

Cosier than a couple of other places in the town I can think of, but nothing to write home about beer-wise - just bog-standard lagers and ciders out of a metal keg.

The Australia, Porthmadog

Good to see the premises I found shuttered in cold rainy March were back open and in good nick by August (following a long recess going by the comments on here). Good microbrewery fare but rather overlit, stark and lacking in convivality. Judging from the accents overheard this is a place for the steam-train fans, mountain-sports enthusiasts and Anglo colonists rather than the locals.

Junction Inn, Glossop

Looks to be on the decline judging by its frequent closure and evident lack of punters glimpsed through window. Nowt special beerwise, unhomely interior/layout, and horrible location on busy little roundabout.

The Globe Hotel, Glossop

Not much to add to reviews here. Good place though it does seem to want to link up with WOMAD and is a magnet for some very up-their-own-arse middle-class Lefty types

The Albion, Bangor

Cosier-looking from outside than inside on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Basic pub grub OK at decent price but nowt special beerwise. Presumably the presence of the university and the character of North Wales Police's upper echelon is responsible for the stupid PC beermats and bottled beers bearing anti-racism labels.
