The Station, Oxenholme

Andy, the landlord, has made an impressive start in his first year in business at The Station. The 'Sunday Dinners'are huge and the 'House Red'excellent. The previous comment about him being friendly is absolutely correct;well he would be wouldn't he,I spend forty quid every week in 'The Station'.No,seriously folks this place is well worth a visit and,if like us, you are dependent on public transport, it's also well worth the walk up the hill from the Railway Station -especially on a cold winter's night....so don't forget your torch.

The Buffet Bar, Stalybridge

This place has been my little piece of heaven for years. Many times,on my way to Darlington,I have broken the outward journey from Manchester( contrary to the terms of carriage)and enjoyed the ale and atmosphere-especially in the winter when the fire is lit.The only downside to this wonderful watering hole are the 'sales prevention officers'that always sit directly in front of the guest ales, and short sighted gits like me can't read the pump clips.Try the 'parch peas.'

Blundell Arms, Horwich

Yes, it is expensive; but if you want to enjoy a meal and good beer in a 'dickhead free zone,'then this is the place.I love the previous comment; but doesn't roast Wiltshire gammon, roast Aberdeen angus and mature farmhouse cheddar sound better than ham beef or cheese.

The White Cross, Lancaster

This pub has been transformed from a grubby do 'down at heel'venue with a procession of 'managers'to a successful middle class watering hole with great food.Tim Tomlinson, the current leaseholder,is a'hands on'licensed retail professional doing a great job.
