The Pack O Cards Inn, Combe Martin

Really nice garden, great beer (Proper Job - don't know brewer). Inside dirty an unfriendly. Food OK.

The Hele Bay, Hele Bay

Went back this year whilst on holiday. Pub has been "done out". It's now a video walled teenager place. IMHO totally spoilt.

The Old House at Home, Romsey

Been going here for lunchtime meals over the last few months. Menu is not very varied but quality of food has been excellent without exception. Gales beers are kept well. HSB is particularly nice.

The Hele Bay, Hele Bay

I visited this pub while on holiday in July 2006. I got an exceptionally friendly welcome. Food was basic but very good and cheap. The beer (London Pride I think) was kept well.

The Three Tuns, Romsey

I took my family there to try the food one tuesday lunchtime in June 2006. At 12:30 the pub was empty. We found out why when the food arrived - it was awful. Served a reasonale pint of beer though (Gales HSB I think).

The Dukes Head, Romsey

Good selection of beer including Summer Lightning. Pleasant garden and three 'themed rooms' inside.

Food served is average but *very* expensive. Bottled beer prices are a complete rip-off e.g. They charge 2.95 for 1/3 pint of gold label barley wine. Half a mile away in Romsey center the Abbey Hotel charge 1.80 for the same drink (as of July 2006).

The Wheatsheaf, Braishfield

Very good food served. Lunchtime special 2 courses 7-95, 3 course 8-95. Varied menu choice.

Beer is varied - last visit they had Doom Bar, Spitfire, Timothy Taylor, Duekars. However, on 2 occasions I have been server a pimt that is off. On one visit I was given a pint while they were cleaning the pipes so it was full of chemicals.

The Newport Inn, Braishfield

All beer is very well kept. A range of Gales fruit wine is also sold. One of the few places that still serve "Gold Label" Barley Wine. In my opinion over the last few years the run down nature of the place has turned from being part of the charm to just being plain dirty.

The Hunters Inn, Woodley

Last 'home cooked meal' I had here was a Lamb Shank that was very red in the middle. When I complained the answer was "they are all like that - it's how we buy them in".

The Cuckoo Inn, Hamptworth

This is a really special pub. Thatched roof, stone floors. Excellently maintained real ale - between 4 and 7 usually available. Standards are Summer Lightning (Hopback), 6X (Wadworths), Cuckoo(?). No music, no one-arm bandit. Basic food. The winter sees a lovely log fire in the main bar(accomodating about 10 people). Two smallers bars, the back one welcomes children. Dogs allowed to room freely inside but need to be controlled in the garden as children play freely in the summer. Open all day sat and sun. Beer festival in september (last one had 40+ ales). Currently landlord Tim (as of apr 05) very welcoming. Over the 15 years I have been visiting this place there have only been 3 landlords (2 in same family). To my mind that says something in itself.
