The Fox and Hounds, Battersea

Great mid week cosy pub in the winter. Serve great food which they change regularly and is not too expensive. Nice garden to sit out in the summer and the staff are nice and friendly too - nuff said!

Bread and Roses, Clapham

Great pub to come to in the summer, but unfortunately, they just serve tapas food now which is a little bit pricey for what it is. It's a shame they don't do their burgers anymore. The vibe here can be on and off, sometimes it gets very busy and others it's dead. I think it's one of those pubs where it's a bit too far out to make a local and to want to go to all the time at weekends. Nice friendly staff though and good choice of beers.

The Trafalgar, Chelsea

I go to this pub quite a lot, but not out of choice as a coupe of friends who live nearby are too lazy to go anywhere else that is half decent so sometimes I have to swallow my pride and make an appearance! Although the decor has been updated over the past year or so and does look a lot more inviting, I'm not a fan of this pub at all, the service is sooooo sloooow it's painful sometimes! I was here last night and they had two, yes two bar staff working at one of the most busy periods ever!! What were they thinking?? We ordered some food which we waited 30/45 mins for and it all came out cold. The waitress give her her due was very apologetic and quickly offered us free drinks and a couple of free portions of chips which we gladly accepted. There was no one collecting glasses so there was empties everywhere and it made the place look a mess. Funnily enough, this pub is owned by the same folk who run the Calf which I've also posted a review on - yep, that's not great either!

The Calf, Clapham

I have been to this pub many times over the past year and I do like it, but sometimes it's a bit hit and miss, especially with the staff and the food service. I'd seen earlier reviews before I came here that food service was slow, and sure enough I experienced this about 1 month ago. There were 3 of us that ordered food at the same time, we ordered belly pork, a club sandwich and scampi. The belly pork came out first and myself and my friend waited about 20/30 mins and enquired as to where the other meals were. The bartender looked sheepish as he wondered into the open kitchen and you could tell by the way he was searching through all the orders that ours had gone astray. We were assured ours would be out next but another 15/20 mins passed and asked again why our food was taking so long. Eventually, it arrived and the excuse was that 'some foods take longer to cook than others' Hmmmm, somehow I don't think toasting some bread and deep frying some scampi takes nearly an hour compared to cooking belly pork?? Lame excuse I thought, all we wanted was some kind of an apology that they'd screwed up, but the 'team' manager refused to acknowledge this balls up. Plus, my scampi was overcooked, no wonder if it took nearly an hour to com out!! Later on when no one was at the bar the 'team' manager offered us a free drink. It was nice of him to do so but he could have dealt with the situation a bit quicker and more efficiently and admitted they were wrong. Another thing that annoyed me on another visit was a new bargirl had started and I must admit she was a bit dippy, I could see she was struggling pouring pints and the two guys working with her did not lift a finger to help the poor girl out and could see she was having a hard time. I thought this was really mean of them. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be back, but this time I know not to have any high expectations of a particularly good service.

Ink Rooms, Battersea

I used to grace the Microbar with my presence on a regular basis, and after being out of town for a while, I was astonished to see the new and not so improved 'Ink Rooms'.

Where will I go now to enjoy a quite, relaxing drink after a stressful day at work and have some friendly chit-chat with the bar staff who used to welcome you with friendly faces. Instead you are greeted by a dark cavern like area with a tattoo theme of sorts. Whats that all about? Are they trying to promote some kind of hardness and attitude all of a sudden? The music is far too loud, maybe that is to distract from the fact that the new staff I've seen don't have anything interesting to talk about?!

The only good thing is that the garden is still the same and is an escape from the rowdiness upstairs. It is a shame that the garden is only open until about 8/9pm, which defeats the object of being blessed with such a great space!! I dont fancy smoking my ciggies out front!

Not sure if I'll be back, if so I'll be taking my torch and ear plugs with me and try to give up smoking!
