The North Pole, Greenwich

Nice bar, decent promotions (Happy hour runs from 4 - 8pm Friday and Saturday), lively atmosphere. The restaurant can be expensive but the food is worth it; they also have attentive friendly service and a pianist tinkling away in the corner. The basement club (South Pole) is an abomination: fill your living room with tacky lighting, one girl and 20 moody wide-boys and you have a decent approximation.

The Railway, Blackheath

Great selection of wine and beer. Passable food, nothing special. Gets rammed Friday and Saturday nights - best avoid it then if that's not your thing. The bloke's toilets are a mess and they don't seem to be bothered smartening them up. Nevertheless, a nice place to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cherry Bar, East Dulwich

The Grand Royal is the best cocktail I've had in London. Decent selection of premium beers on tap too. Highly recommended.

The Goat, Battersea

My favourite South London bar. Perfect for whiling away a lazy Saturday afternoon. Haven't been later in the evening, but I can imagine it gets busy. Big plusses: Budvar on tap, great wine list, top food for sharing. Gorgeous. To the owners: please open a sister bar in East Dulwich.

The Uplands Bar and Brasserie, East Dulwich

Argh. Used to be nice a few years back with a fun atmosphere, but it's simply awful now. Avoid.

The Gowlett Arms, Peckham

I'd heard such good things about this pub that I just had to try it. What a disappointment.

The pizza is tasty. Not quite BRB standards (nearest: Camberwell), but good nonetheless. However, slightly dodgy furnishings - could really do with getting rid of the carpet. The other disappointment was the awful selection of beers on tap: no budvar / kronenbourg / grolsch / star / bitburger etc. Who wants to drink Stella or Carling these days?
