The Beaver Inn, Appledore

Good food, service and clientele. Book a table if you want to eat and ask for a view after checking the tidetables to get the most of it.

The Appledore Inn, Bideford

New Year's Eve can be quite crowded but service good. Interior looks a bit bodged but better than factory built establishments.

The Kingsley Inn, Northam

Food very cheap and nearly cheerful. Beer ok in the 70's, too often driving to know now. Somewhat noisy with kids eating at lunchtime when I last went, times move on.

Lacking soul

The Kings Arms, Winkleigh

An amazing experience in the 70's when Inches Cider was still under that name down the road. Mouth worked but legs stopped.

The Famous Railway Tavern Brewing Co, Brightlingsea

A real treat, incomparable landlord and locals. Cider festival every May Day weekend takes some surviving.

Kings Arms, Bideford

Used to always try to get to the Kings by 8 o'clock, rarely left before 11. Great in the 70's still just as good I hope.

The Joiners Arms, Bideford

Spent my formative years drinking here in the 70s. Popped back in the nineties and it hadn't changed a bit except they no longer sold cider at 10p a pint. Nice pub that still retains its charm.
