The Shortlands Tavern, Shortlands

Newly taken over pub that is first and foremost tremendously friendly and welcoming but, snapping at the heals of this quality comes great selection of real ales / ciders, a small but brilliant menu, cozy atmosphere and the most amazing staff. Factor in an excellent and diverse menu of entertainment and you have probably one of the best pubs in south London. If you have any reservations, ditch them - go - you won't be disappointed.

Globe, Liverpool

I can't believe this pub's ranking. Don't assume this is going to be a great pub or even a mediocre one with the most wonderful beer - it's neither. It's tiny, scruffy and not exactly full of the friendliest scousers in town. Last time I was in there mid-week, mid-evening, it was so crowded, noisy and full of the most intimidating people that a number of the group I was in either declined to go in to begin with or turned on their heels and went straight out again. I and a couple of others stayed for a hastily drunk pint and the fight that broke out between two women seemed to confirm the others in my party that went elsewhere were right.
There is a wealth of decent pubs in Liverpool - experience those, not this place!

Dial Arch, Woolwich

This is a great pub. Fantastic location, stunning architecture and interior. Beautifully transformed building with much acknowledgement of its notable history.
The pub comprises a number of rooms varying hugely in size and style so there is something to suit every mood. From little snooks to an airy bistro-style room and comfortable restaurant, all are very tasteful.
There is a range of menus from bar snacks to bar meals and a full restaurant menu and to the extent I have tried it, the food is excellent. A good range of dishes, beautifully cooked and presented and at fairly resonable prices.
Nice selection of wines and excellent range of hand pulled real ales and premium lagers.
Finally, the staff are excellent. We experienced a minor disappointment with a male member of staff during one visit, but all the other are fantastic - genuinely courteous, friendly and attentive. Even in such wonderful surroundings, they are the pub's greatest asset.

Running Horses, Erith

This could be a great little local - there is a marked lack of pubs in the area but there is a total lack of ambition here.
From the charmless couple who run it, who would choke on the words 'please', 'thank you' or any other basic courtesies to those who provide their livelihood, to the regulars who leer at every woman who walks through the door and stare aggressively at any 'new' male who walks in, the place is devoid of friendliness.
Families, only enter here if you are happy for children - of any age - to be in the earshot of the loudest, foulest language - shouted use of 'f' and 'c' words amongst others are not mollified at all in the presence of youngsters because the regulars border on thugs.
The pub is not clean, the toilets are a disgrace, the wine is both expensive and putrid and it's a battle between you and the beer flies who gets the best of your pint.
In short - don't bother.
