New Plough, Covenham St Bartholomew

Was ok when we went earlier in the year but its gone downhill since.
Cheeky waitress argued with me when i told her it was lamb gravy and not beef as advertised.
In the end the chef agreed it was lamb but by this time my partner had finished her meal whilst i was still waiting for mine to be replaced and the evening was spoilt.
Not going there again.

The Tivoli Tavern, Grimsby

Bit of a dive and expensive.

The Yarborough Hotel, Grimsby

Good atmosphere and a nice old pub with good old wetherspoons prices.
The food can be a bit hit and miss but all in all for the price its got to be reccomended.

The Kirkstile Inn, Loweswater

Quite simply the best steak and ale pie ive ever had, it also came with lots of superb gravy and at a good price too.
The ale was good and the melbreak bitter reminded me of a top notch home brewed beer.
Great scenery too.

The George Hotel, Castleton

Me and my wife decided to eat here and although the pub was quiet the staff were friendly and the beer good.
I had a rabbit pie which was very tasty if a little on the small side.
My wife had steak and ale pie which was ok but nothing to rave about.
The chips were not very good ( ye old nags head do perfect chunky and well cooked chips).
For almost 10 per meal it was a little on the expensive side for what you got.
Still it was a whole lot better than the old nags head burnt steak and ale pie.

Ye Olde Nags Head, Castleton

Stayed here for 2 nights and was welcomed by a nice friendly white bearded bloke who showed us to our room.
Our room ladyblower was clean but the shower is still naff.
A good selection of real ales are available and the timothy taylors landlord was a good pint if a little underfilled.!
We ordered steak and ale pie with chips and seasonal veg and ended up with burnt pie hidden with gravy and what looked like a tin of peas heated up and tipped on the plate.
The chips were nice though.
When the waitress asked if everything was ok i complained about the burnt pie but no one got back to us or appologised.
We decided not to eat here again after that.
The breakfast was ok
The kitchen staff are all youngish people and i overheard one manager calling one of his kitchen staff a pillock which i thought was unprofessional especially whilst customers were in the bar drinking and eating.
I also hate to see the chefs outside smoking when im going to eat a meal they have prepared.
The home made pies in the george just round the corner was first class nosh and a good pint of bombadier to go with it.
All in all it wasent a bad stay at ye old nags head for the price of 99 for 2 of us for 2 nights.
The burnt pies should have never been served to us and when we complained they should have done something and not ignored it.
Needs a little more work and better kitchen staff to make it a more enjoyable stay.
