The Bell, Avening

Went in for a busk one Monday evening recently. Good fun, nice beer.

The Green Dragon, Marlborough

Probably a drinkers pub. Went in early evening looking for food. I had smoked haddock and pea risotto without any smoked haddock or peas. It was a stodgy lump of rice with some parmesan grated over it. My girlfriend had smoked salmon and prawn (shells on) salad. They were small prawns without shells. Very average and could easily have been concocted from a supermarket's basics line.
Beer, Wadworths 6X was excellent as was the cider. I'd come back for a pint but food? Packet of peanuts maybe.

Great pub in the country, good food, good beer, hurrah ! Mind you, the landlord's a nutter :-D

Kilchoan House Hotel, Kilchoan

Good beer, didn't get round to trying the food. Landlord works his arse off ! Live music is encouraged, pick up a guitar and play !

The Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha

Turned up on a Sunday, the hottest day in May and I think half of Glasgow had turned up for a day out. Had an excellent pint and a great meal served by friendly staff. A tourist's pub for sure but not a bad one at that. As an introduction to Scotland they did a grand job.

The Sun Inn, Bentworth

Despite appearances, rather a disappointment. Lacks conviviality, atmosphere with mediocre beer

The landlady must change her colours to suit the customer. She's a Swindon fan. It's true ;-)

The Castle of Comfort, Medstead

Proper drinking pub. You won't be fighting your way past eaters in here, they don't serve food. Beer a bit pricey, but hey ho. The locals will turn and stare as you walk through the door but that's part of the atmosphere, isn't it?
