The North Star, Ealing

I like the North Star but am often reluctant to go sometimes because it's always so packed and I can never get a place to sit. But when I have got a place to sit it's a lovely little cosy/cool pub with a decent selection of beers. They boast a special menu of unusual or continental beers that often aren't available which is disappointing. The refurb has grown on me but was happy with it the way it was. Toilets have slightly benefited from it tho. The staff are ok but I think I know a little bit what other people mean on here. I still don't understand why tey never seem to serve at the end of the bar closest to the front door. Saw a couple walk out the other week because of this even tho there was a barman lurking at that end serving a couple of people for a change.. Random but hasn't effected my opinion of the place - still top notch :) Could do with being open later on weekends tho.

The Duke of Kent, Ealing

I love this pub. Have visited it many many times since I started visiting Ealing nearly 7 years ago... Have been living in Ealing for the past 5 years and visit it regularly on weekends and evenings. The beer garden is lovely and big and great in the summer after a walk around the park next door. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and there is a decent selection of Fullers beers available and a great red wine called Poker Face that I love (bit expensive tho..) The food is nice and the inside feels welcoming and there are some nice cosy corners. My boyfriend and I often visit it for a cheeky drink on Fridays after work before we head to the chip shop on Pitshanger Lane to pick up our dinner :)

The Townhouse, Ealing

Closed!! At last! Awful place and I didn't even go at night!

Parkview, Ealing

I agree with what was said before me by msgranger. Awful place. Chavtastic as you like. Shut. It. Down. I grew up in Croydon and I feel like I'm back there sometimes on a night out in Ealing and it shouldn't be like that..

Ha Ha, Ealing

It's now called Flava after a re-vamp late last year. Hasn't changed at all inside. Awful place. Preferred it better as Ha ha if that's possible! It only seems to attract a certain crowd.. They have a shisha bit at the front outside of the bar and when me and some mates tried to go in the bar man got all weird and funny saying "No, no, no. Wait here, jst wait here" Tried to explain we had already been in the bar and wanted to go in the shisha bit but we seemed to be refused entry to this bit for some reason. V unwelcoming place. Running out of decent places to take my friends which is bad.

The Forester, West Ealing

I think I noticed it shut once too.. Not very useful at all if they want customers. If you can't trust it to be open then you're not gonna make the effort to go down and visit now are you? Stupid. Only been once (when choosing which house to buy in West Ealing!) and it was ok. Barman reasonably friendly but it was very much a locals local.

The Drayton Court, West Ealing

I like this pub. It has recently become my local and it ticks all the boxes. Big beer garden (full of kids mostly when it's warm) good selection of fuller beer, nice staff, food ok.. but I've had better versions of the same thing in other fullers pubs so maybe the chef need to buck up his ideas. I don;t go there to eat so that doesn't bother me. Amazing/unusual looking building and just good all round.

The Castlebar, West Ealing

Popped in briefly a couple of Saturdays ago. Not overly impressed. It's v small but has a large-ish albeit cramped outside area that always seems to be busy. Good for a quick drink but not to stay. I live in West Ealing and have some friends coming round tomorrow (Sat) and I refuse to take them anywhere in West Ealing cos it's just so - blah. No atmosphere and a little boring. I now understand why the Northstar is always so rammed!

The Star and Anchor, West Ealing

Yeah, was shut last Saturday night when I walked past. Popped in probably sometime early last year (I think) on a Sunday for a quick drink and even then it felt awful and nothing was even happening. I'm not suprised it is shut. I wish Ealing had some nice stylish places to go.

Ashbys, West Ealing

Oh yes, and it was a Saturday nigth by the way.

Ashbys, West Ealing

Hmmm.. this is a strange pub. Having lived in Ealing for the past 3 years now and havng just moved further down into West Ealing I wasn't too familiar with these local haunts.. Took a couple of friends to the castlebar and then thought we'd 'migrate' over to Ashby's for a slight change. It was dead. It was about 10:30pm and there were a couple of lads smoking out the back but that was it. A small bunch came in later to play pool and then a couple parked on a sofa later on too. It is very nice inside (not been before it was refurbed) but the outside needs to be updated and follow the theme inside. It doesn't really welcome you in from the outside. Basically, when you looked over the road everyone was in the Castlebar. They need to sort this out somehow. Shame.

The Packhorse and Talbot, Chiswick

SHUT UP about the football. Who gives a toss! It was nice and cosy when I went and the food and table service rather good too. Lets stick to just rating the actual pubs and not slating everything in sight please!

Rutland Arms, Hammersmith

Looked inviting from the outside but was quite small inside and looked rather "towny bar" ie a bit unoriginal. Felt a bit 'messy' in there and the wine was yukky. Boring atmosphere. Don't plan to go again soon.

The Packhorse and Talbot, Chiswick

I am yet to go back here since moving to Chiswick but I will very soon as it was a lovely cosy and warm pub with very friendly and helpful staff with a great table service for food. Nice atmosphere and v spacious. Thumbs up! Food v nice too!

The Old Ship, Hammersmith

Nice modern feeling pub/bar. V freindly and (I am told) fit staff. Good selection of beer and other drinks. They play sports on the big screen now and then which I personally would avoid so be warned.. Other than that is nice and inviting and I can't wait to sit outside in the summer!!

The George and Devonshire, Chiswick

Big thumbs down to this place. Unfortunately, this is my local pub yet I would much rather walk the 10/15 minutes along the Thames to the Old Ship, Black Lion or The Dove for a bit of character and cosy inviting atmosphere. This pub has no character whatsoever and I hate the fact that it is split into two as it makes it smaller. It doesn't make any sense!! Both sides are equally as drab and extremely spit and saw dust. It never seems to get busy but I have only been there twice, but then why would I go again to find that out!?
Another stupid feature to this pub is that it is the closest and most local Fuller's pub next to the Fullers brewery, yet it has the most rubbish selection of Fuller's beers! Where is the Honey Dew???!!!!!!!!!!!!

17 Jan 2006 23:16

The Dove Inn, Hammersmith

My favourite pub so far along the Thames. Lovely warm and inviting pub. It is a bit on the tiny side but offers a fantastic real fire and that lovely Fuller's gem... Honey Dew! Lush! It has a nice oldy woldy feel.

The Bulls Head, Chiswick

Good layout and nice interior which is inviting and cosy. I like the nooks a cranies this pub has to offer. Staff nice and friendly and the food was of a good standard too. Good selection of specials I will try soon! Lovely view onto the Thames. Best pub along the Strand.

The Black Lion, Hammersmith

Nice cosy and warm pub for a few cheeky pints before you head on a crawl up the Thames to Hammersmith Bridge! Staff very friendly. Bit quiet when I went but I can imagine it gets v busy in eves.

The Bell and Crown, Chiswick

I was a bit put off when I first walked in (going in the back from the Thames is not quite the same as going in the front!) however, it was quite cosy and warm but I had to sit in the non smoking area which is a bit cut off but nice and quiet to relax. The food was nice. Good selection and hearty portions in Fuller's pubs as ever! Lady serving food was very jolly and made it even more inviting. Would go back for a few pints again at some point.

The Lamb Brewery, Chiswick

Been once to this place and not a fan at the moment! It looked nice from the outside like it would be a nice hidey hole, cosy, oldy woldy pub but it is not.
It is similar to a yates or something along those lines. It looked chainy and plain with a full range of yukky shots and alcho pops. There was sport blaring and people playing pool in a dreary corner of the pub.

17 Jan 2006 22:51

The Bollo, Chiswick

Lovely cosy pub with a wonderful selection of food to choose from. The lamb shank was particuarly yummy! Staff have been friendly overall. Depends what day you go really and who you get!
It's a nice place to go if you want to get away from the unoriginal chain bars/pubs that spring up everywhere.
I didn't find it pretentious at all and I am not a "ya" person either. (previous comments)
