The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

Great boozer but unfortunately this pub is always seems far too crowded to me, seems that word has got out. 'Quiet drink?, you are having a giraffe. Lemony Cricket was on last time I went, goes down well. Don't recall too many pubs of two halves like this, adds a certain quaintness to it. For 35 year old drinkers and over I'd say, plus you don't seem top see too many women.

The Magpie, Sunbury on Thames

Why is it so quiet? Great location, decent beers, (if limited choice), but the inside is rather sepulchral. Jazz it up a bit, you'll get more custom!

The Grey Horse, Kingston Upon Thames

Unpretentious boozer, in fact you wouldn't really know it was a music pub if you were a casual visitor. Wish there were more music venues like this. Worth going to two or three times a year. Only a very strange person would go here just for drinking though.

The Hole In The Wall, Waterloo

The best thing about this pub is its location and its ordinariness. Leave Waterloo Station's dreadful plastic bars without a second glance and head out for a decent pint with a good mix of people.

The Worlds End, Hampton

Never was a pub more aptly named. At least one heavy brawl a year involving punters. In its favour the garden is lovely and looks like the landlord tries hard, but as far as the beer is concerned it's the usual suspects. Bearing in mind its location, it could and should be better.

The Crazy Bear Hotel, Oxford

Nice, but stupendously expensive. Need to look at their pricing structure. Somewhere to go to impress your mistress... i guess, I don't have one!,

The Bell Inn, Hampton

Much better place to visit on lunchtimes, nice food, fairly reasonably priced, lovely decor. but , at night, oh dear!

Maybe I have been unlucky but have been constantly staggered by the poor quality of bar staff when you pop in for an evening pint. They seem to regard the customer as being a bt of a sufferance and start clearing up at 10.30 irrespective of whether the pub is busy or not! Good environment for couples wanting a few drinks and a quiet natter... but that means nothing muchwithout courteous, well trained staff. Plus, some of them seem to have difficulty pouring a full pint. Not an assassination, just an honest observation, if they got their staffing act together this could be quite a place.

The Railway Bell, Hampton

This is a convenient pub for Hampton main line station and many local residents pop in for a quick one on the way home. Was previously very dowdy but a well planned front garden with plenty of space has made this a pleasant place for a pint. Unlike the Coopers down the road, there is a far more even spread of sexes drinking.

The quality of the bar staff, especially when the gaffer is off is variable. I have been a victim of surly service and occasionally the main bar has been dirty, which suggests that the pub is happy to rest on its laurels, content to pick up revenue from the constant passing trade.

Beer choice is average, prices are high. No idea about the quality of food. Definitely moving in right direction but room for improvement, particularly from some of the younger bar staff, who sometimes appear to see customers as being a bit of an imposition!

The Jolly Coopers, Hampton

Super, local pub which has just had a very decent beer festival. The landlord has been here for nearly 25 years and must be some sort of time traveller becuase he only looks about 35. The regular beers are well kept, there is a talented chef lurking around somewhere and there is always some interesting banter to tune into. Locals are friendly and welcoming One of the best things about living in Hampton, can't recommend it highly enough. Massively male dominated though.
