Bridge Inn, Horwich

Not a very nice pub to first walk into... you go through the door and its a long narrow dark corridor with the bar on one side and people sat opposite it like a hospital waiting room corridor, the people who then all stop and turn to look at you, like in an old Western. Seemed to be rooms leading off this corridor but it felt very unwelcoming, and quite cramped, and not very nice considering the size of the place on the outside!

The Piccadilly Tavern, Manchester

The food here is tasty and good value! The decor is also nice and cosy.

The Jolly Crofters, Horwich

It's beautiful on the outside, and really warm and comfortable looking on the inside, like a traditional country pub. Sadly, the food was pricy and really quite poor :(

The Talisman, Wythenshawe

Formerly "The Cock O' The North", this place became The Talisman, which was an utter dive full of druggies and violent types. It has now been shut down and demolished.

The Pheasant Plucker, Bolton

This place doesn't seem welcoming... bars and boards over the window etc. However I went in once, to use the gents toilets, which were disgusting, no locks on the doors etc. There was also no toilet roll so I nipped into the disabled loo which scared me, because I opened the door and it was full from floor to ceiling with junk, old christmas trees, boxes, buckets etc, you couldn't even SEE the toilet inside. I'm pretty sure that's illegal. I had to ask at the bar for toilet paper and the barmaid brought a gigantic roll of toilet paper out and passed it me over the bar. Embarrassing.

The Black Bull, Horwich

Just a quick update... this pub has closed down and become a posh Italian restaurant called Il Toro (The Bull).

The London Hotel, Llandudno

I implore you to ignore the 'review' by 'HappyWolf'. They are obviously a friend or collegue of the venue, determined to try and make me out to be a liar to cover their backsides. They are making stuff up, and omitting other things.

The London Hotel, Llandudno

I just had a very nasty experience at The London Hotel, Llandudno. My partner and I (we're a gay couple) were having a meal at the London today (8.8.10) for our 8th anniversary (and 1st wedding anniversary). The whole time, a young lady behind the bar was giving us odd/dirty looks.

After we'd finished the meal and paid, I thanked the girl for the meal and suggested that she inform whoever is in charge of the music that I didn't think it suited the venue, as it was very loud schmaltzy 1950's American music in a very English style pub. This girl then laid into me about how other customers like it, and how maybe it's me and my "type" that don't suit the venue and then "BYE!" loudly at me. I told her that I didn't mean to offend, I just meant that as it was our anniversary, hearing "lonesome tonight" was a bit glum, she said that she didn't care about my "gay anniversary", and again added "BYE!". I said that I found her rude, and she snapped back telling me I was rude for "moaning about the music".

I asked for her name. She refused. So I asked for the manager, she said "you're looking at her" with a smarmy smile. I asked who was in charge of her and she said that her mum and dad are the owners and so complaining to them would be "a waste of time". She again refused to give her name despite admitting to being the daughter of the owners.

I told her that I felt she'd spoiled our visit as we'd had a nice time so far, she said that "you spoiled your own visit by opening your big gob, and that's not all that's big on you" (which is a reference to me being a fat guy), I asked what she meant and if I should note that down. She then said I was "attacking her" and she would call the police. This was achieving nothing, so I left.

I've E-Mailed Marston Pubs and most sincerely hope they deal with this unpleasant woman and her nasty demeanour and homophobic attitude (especially as the pub's site claims to be 'gay friendly').

I will NEVER visit this venue again, and will actively discourage everyone I know from ever trying it.
