The Cross Hands, Fishponds

Not very impressed with this pub!

It seems that the beer drinker is a second rate citizen in the Cross Hands, because they appear to prefer people ordering food and do not pay much attention to thirsty beer drinkers stood waiting at the bar, taking every opportunity to disappear around the back of the bar to who knows where?

I left here after waiting for over 10 mins, without any acknowledgement, and went to the Railway Tavern where all customers are valued!

I will not be back....

The Railway Tavern, Fishponds

Back at the Railway Tavern and this is Still The Only Real 'Local' Pub in Fishponds!

Real Beer, Skittles, Darts, Dogs allowed if very well behaved, Cyclists are welcome and the Railway Tavern is just down the road from the Bristol and Bath Cycle-path!

And if you are a keen angler, you can chat for hours with the many resident anglers who drink here.....13lb 6oz or was it 15lb 10oz?

Football is also shown on three screens around the pub and there is a quiz on Sunday evening.

Overall-go old locals pub for more than just 'locals'.

The Greyhound, Fishponds

'Insert Coin'
Local rumors are intimating that the Greyhound is going to re-open in February and it is has also been rumoured that works have been going on for several weeks inside behind the Sitex.
Hmmm. I have not seen any skips etc......
We wait and see!

The Railway Tavern, Fishponds

We have lost the Greyhound and Cross Keys in Fishponds, but the Railway Tavern is still THE ONLY Real Pub left in fishponds.

The landlord is very keen and knows his stuff, if a beer is not up to scratch it does not go on.

Bar staff are attentive and also know their stuff too.

Overall.....A real local, for everyone, not just locals.

The Chequers Inn, Hanham Mills

After looking on the Chequers Inn website, which exalted this pub and its various facilities on offer, I decided to ride down for a nice pint in 'pleasant surroundings'.

After much effort I finally arrived (at 8pm) only to find the place closed and no sign of life.....:-(

Will not be coming back......

The Spotted Cow, Fishponds

The cow has had another change of landlord, yet again, just before christmas 2011. We hoped it would be a saving grace for this pub, which could be a very good local.
Things were going good, food started with more customers comming in, and some entertainment at the weekends was provided. Things were looking up....or so we thought.
Recently I started hearing reports that the landlord has lost all his bar staff (walked out) and that regular customers were leaving in their droves. I could not believe this, so one night I went in to find out what was going on. And I wish I had not. The landlord was very rude with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. So I left it never to return.

The Old Post Office, Fishponds

Up-market Wetherspoons!

It's a Wetherspoons and does what is 'says-on-the-tin'.

The Railway Tavern, Fishponds

About the ONLY DECENT PUB left in Fishponds....
Darts, Cards, Skittle Alley, and a weekly quiz night, plus football and rugby games shown on several screens around the bar area.

The only thing that they don't have is a pool table...But it's not that kind of pub anyway.

Usually 3 Real ales on and all in top form, and if they are not in top form they are not 'put on'!

REMEMBER!...........

Support YOUR local pub or it will close and all you will be letf with will be *ether$p^ons....

The Portcullis, Fishponds

Unfurtunatly, the current owners arn't 'Pub Material' and can be quite rude at times. so-much-so, that I no longer go in there. This is a shame beacuae this could be quite a nice pub if run properly.

The Artichoke, Bristol

The Artichoke is now CLOSED!

The Railway Tavern, Fishponds

Pegging has been taking place here as well as the Portcularse and Whetherspoons.
Fishponds is a pegging free-for-all!

Remember! Your'e Never Alone, With a Peg!

Van Dyke, Fishponds

The sport of 'Pegging' has now reached the 'spoons' with Friday and Saturday nights good pegging. The bus stop outside is fair game as well.
The 'spoons' have had a nice selection of 'winter-brews' on pump, recently. Like 'Wickwar' Mr Perretts and Station Porter (very nice, but strong). Oyster stout was nice, but I cannot remember who makes it.

25 Oct 2008 13:50

The Portcullis, Fishponds

The 'Portcularse' has a new landlord, who has brought back the Pool table and dart board. There is a quiz night on Tuesday with live music on the weekend.

There are usually 2 real ales on sale, with most main stream lagers and ciders also available.

Come and vist the 'Singing Window', and you might also get 'Pegged'.

Remember!......Don't underestimate the power of the peg!

The Farriers Arms, Fishponds

I think this pub is going to close, because it seems to be closed more than it is open? Unfortunatley there is a large choice of pubs in Fishponds and we also have a Wetherspoons!

The Portcullis, Fishponds

I have been in the 'cullis' recently and everything seems to be going fine and they now have a new juke box also there will be no tickets or charges for entry on New Years Eve.

The Crown & Cushion, Bristol

This pub has indeed been dmolished, to make way foe the new Broadmead devlopment!

26 Dec 2007 11:40

The Spotted Cow, Fishponds

The 'Cow' is now open again, and very nice it is too.

Two real ales are on tap. Currently 'Sharps Doombar' and 'Courage Best' with 'Fosters', 'Stella' and 'Kronebourg' lagers and 'Blackthorn' and 'Strongbow' Cider as well.

A total transformation of what was a rather run down pub!

The Volunteer, Bristol

Looks nice on the outside, but, a little bit rough on the inside (not trouble) but, just a bit rough. Need to make another visit as the beer was good!
