The Volunteer, Sutton Abinger

Popped in on Sunday evening for a quick pint. Nice pint of Tangle foot went down a treat. Place was empty so good time to go for a quiet drink! Yep, it is a little basic around the edges but it's an original country pub. Always worth a visit in summer due to the stunning location. Have eaten here in the past and have not been disappointed!

The Woodcock, Beacon Hill

Dropped in Friday lunchtime. Place has a lot of potential character. Two good size bars, one with pool table, other more geared to eating. Got the impression that the bar lady was not a regular and have heard that this place may be changing hands again soon. That being said, friendly staff - reasonable basic snack. Dead quiet though for Friday lunchtime. There for an hour and only two other people turned up! Perhaps busier in the evening.

The Longford, Hampton Hill

Been in here a few times recently. Overall feeling is that it hasn't quite managed to make up it's mind what it wants to be - pub, wine bar, restaurant. Often difficult to be all things at once and do them all well. Perhaps this is why it doesn't seem to feel like it has a lot of atmosphere. That being said, on the plus side - it's always clean and tidy, plenty of space so you can have a quiet chat, nice food and the guy behind the bar is hugely helpful and keen to give a good service. Worth a try if you fancy a quiet but modern setting.

Duke of Clarence, Hampton Hill

Nice local pub on the high street with reasonable range of drinks. Sports screen but volume down - ( which is my preference!) Lebanese restaurant out back which does some unexpectedly lovely food.

The Kings Head, Holmbury St Mary

Popped in over the weekend. Nice local country pub. Good selection of drinks and wholesome pub food. Well worth a visit!

The Woolpack, Elstead

Dropped by for lunch. Bar staff were friendly and helpful. Took a little while to get food but it is the run up to Christmas and the food was proper home made fare. So well worth the wait! The side extension part of the building is a little lacking in character compared to the rest of the pub but the food certainly made up for it.

The Inn On The Lake, Godalming

Not really a traditional "pub" but still a nice place to have a beer. Has the advantage of plenty of casual seating, a bar snacks area and a full blown restaurant. Well decorated throughout and I've always found the service to be good. Food is usually good although very occassionally the standard does slip (had to send back some chips that looked like they'd be waiting for an owner for hours!) That being said, a nice overall place to eat and drink. Probably more large wine bar/bistro than pub. Not going to say it's expensive because in reality no pubs or restaurants around these parts are cheap!

The Stag on the River, Eashing

Have now been to this place a couple of times since it changed hands. It is quite stunning how the new owners have taken a pub with amazing potential and completely ruined it! They have tried to go "up market" but have completely forgotten the customer in the process. They will not allow you to order food at the bar at lunchtimes but then take 10 minutes to be bothered to serve you! The attitude of the staff isn't great either. At an average lunch time last year (before it changed hands) the place was packed. Now it gets nothing like amount of people. Yet the service is still poor and the prices extortionate! If you want an "up market" pub, you're better off at the Inn on the Lake or Elstead Mill.

Wine bar in the centre of town. Not much room downstairs and only bottle beers but staff are friendly, nice relaxed atmosphere and the live music helps with the chilled out atmosphere. Not a "Blokes Boozer" but definately one to visit with the other half if you fancy a relaxed, wine bar for a change.

The Hautboy Inn, Ockham

Dropped in here for a few drinks a couple of weeks back. Nice place. Didn't eat so can't comment on service in that area but the bar staff were really friendly which was a pleasant surprise ! Worth a visit.

The Stag on the River, Eashing

Currently closed as Landlord alledgedly wouldn't renew the lease. Lots of builders in there at the moment so imagine will be open again pretty soon!
