The Star Inn, Guildford

Lovely proper pub with blinding music nights! I've seen some great bands here.

The stairs to the ladies *are* something of a hazard after a few drinks, but the higgledy-piggledy nature of the pub just adds to its charm.

From what I can tell, the pub seems well organised, with enough staff to keep things running smoothly (I hate waiting for ages & ages while the bar staff basically faff about so I'm always happy to meet a bar-person who knows what they're doing!)

I feel really comfy & at home here. (There are LOADS of fit young musos to meet!) Cheap-ish drinks prices, Girl-friendly, No Chav element, No trouble. Fab!

Flares, Guildford

Now a 70s inspired bar called "Flares" I believe...Just glimpsed it on my way into town last night.

Old Orleans, Guildford

Went here last night & I have to say that the food was rather good - or better than I remembered anyway!

Despite it being a Monday night & only 15% full at best they didn't seem madly keen to look after us. Staff seemed to disappear from view for long periods. (Where do they go???)

We went to buy our own drinks at the bar and there was nobody there either!

When our waitress asked if everything was Ok with our food I turned to speak to her but she was already gone. (Speeding off back to wherever they all go!) I wanted to say "Beep-Beep" cos it was a classic Road Runner customer satisfaction check as opposed to one where they actually give a crap!

As per our usual experience here I never saw a manager until bill paying time.

Food was ok though...and they let my friends use their company vouchers. (They've been known to refuse.)

The Greyhound, Ash

Most of the previous reviewers either have never been here or they're the management!

No kids allowed so NOT a family pub. I thought it looked like one too but I tried to take my nieces in for lunch & was kicked out. I'd never actually made it here before cos they only take food orders 'til 8pm & cos of work I never get anywhere 'til 8pm so I've always driven right past.

"Much better quality than The Swan in Ash Vale"? Yeah. Right. ;-)

I checked Michelle38s other reviews...& there aren't any. She's only reviewed this place so I'm guessing she's the manageress!

& another thing. The outside seating is a patch of concrete looking out onto the picturesque roundabout!

All Bar One, Guildford

Eek! Apologies for giving this place another slating but FFS I feel violated everytime I hand over any cash in here.

Honestly, I'm really easy to please. There are loads of places I like, & quite a few that I love. I'm virtually a bar slut in that I'll drink almost anywhere. I *do* have standards though. This hellhole doesn't even fulfil the bare minimum of clean glass & clean loo.

Plus I reckon it's one of those places which has a sink or swim approach to staff training which is why they don't give a crap, & they don't know what they're doing.

& the wait at the bar is frigging shocking! I wouldn't even mind that so much if they served in turn, but Nah - he who shouts the loudest gets the beer. The bar staff fanny about without a care in the world while we just wait like prats only to be ignored for another 20 minutes.

Never again.

The Albion, Aldershot

Nicest pub in Aldershot, run by two of the friendliest people on the planet! I love coming here. There's probably nowhere else in this town that I'd feel comfortable wandering into by myself but I don't even give it a thought here.

I will totally be back asap.

The Seahorse, Shalford

Lovely! Great date pub, or somewhere to take your Mum & Dad out to. Food was great - & the boss was really nice. I liked being able to see who was running the show.

It's good to go to lots of different types of places & this is definitely a food pub rather than a bar or drinkers pub.

I know it isn't part of a chain because I asked, but it really reminded me of The Swan. Nice atmosphere, friendly people with personalities, & good food.

RSVP, Guildford

Massive with plenty of seating. The crowd is reasonably friendly & mostly young-ish. Bar staff are pretty good, & don't seem to turn over as fast as in some places. Door staff seem cool too.

Plenty of fitties every time I go which might be why I like it! I usually end up here if we're going clubbing after. I've never seen any trouble.

I'm always happy to go to RSVP, whereas I whinge if anyone tries to drag me to some of the rubbish bars in Guildford.

The Anchor, Southwark

Multi-level Tourist Beer Barn.

It's ok as a one drink meet-up point before going on somewhere better.

What's the deal with closing the top bar as soon as the rush dies down? No sooner have I noticed that it's thinning out a bit & maybe I won't have to wait so damn long this time than they close one of the bars & it's a scrum all over again.

Rubbish.

I guess they think we're all one time tourists & it doesn't matter if they treat us like cattle.

The Thai Terrace, Guildford

Gorgeous place to hang out in the evenings. Fabulous views. LOVE the food. Could do without the singer though!

The Swan, Ash Vale

I've always believed that it's the people who make a place & it's especially true of this pub. They have some of the best-looking barmen I have ever seen.

I always make the really bubbly bar-lady laugh when I tell her I don't know how she gets any work done surrounded by such fitties!

Perfect for a girly night midweek, or a weekend afternoon lazing in the beer-garden. Where - yeah - there might be children! Kids in a beer-garden at the weekend in the summer? Whatever next?!

The Five and Lime, Guildford

Yeah the music IS too loud but hey we're young aren't we?! It just means you have to lean in close to hear what that fittie is saying to you!

They definitely choose who to let in & who not to, but if it keeps the chavs and a*ses out then that's fine with me.

I love hanging out in the garden in the summer-time evenings, & when shopping in Guildford I park in the multi-storey opposite & often stop off for a post shopping drink and a snack.

The barstaff aren't as friendly as some of the other places I go, but they're cool! They do their job.

The Quays, Mytchett

Ewww! Three staff huddled at one end of a huge long bar & a rude manager who tried to make it my fault that I was overcharged.

& yeah. Chav Central. BIG Time.

The Waterwitch, Odiham

Great summer-time afternoon hangout. HUGE beer-garden, pretty surroundings and great food. The bar's really tiny though for such a big place???

Old Orleans, Guildford

Ugh. Ok for a quickie, but who wants to sit on the concrete & gaze at a picturesque view of the arse-end of Guildford? (A multi-storey car-park, industrial estate & another car-park?

I don't eat here much. The food's pretty generic frozen microwave and grill stuff & the management seem rude & indifferent. They are more interested in sitting in the office than taking care of business.

This is just my opinion of course, & to be fair I am never there long. I can't get served at the bar so I get fed-up & go somewhere else.

The Keystone, Guildford

I have fond memories of a mis-spent youth in The Cannon that was, but I have to say I love it even more now it is The Keystone (& I am no longer a student!) The place is beautiful. I can barely remember what it looked like before, but I know it was grotty.

I'm still getting to know the place, but so far I like it a lot. The food is good, & I can hardly wait for the weather to improve so that I can sit outside in the sunshine.

19 Apr 2006 02:27

Propaganda, Fleet

Warm friendly vibe, smiley staff & relaxed punters lounging on the big squishy sofas. *Love* it here.

They sell basically every drink you can think of, and the food is pretty nice for snacky stuff. The DJ on Friday nights plays cheese sing-a-long happy music & pretty much anything you ask for.

Attracts a friendly mainly over-21 crowd, not too dressed-up, not too posey. Everyone seems to chat to everyone else. Plenty of pulling goes on, but you feel like people are more there for a good time than the meat market angle.

My only complaint is that nobody dances until really late and I've usually been dying to since my second cocktail at 8:15.

19 Apr 2006 02:06

Que Pasa, Camberley

Seems popular with the dressed-up spend-big under-25 crowd before they go onto one of the local clubs.

Lots of mixed groups just in for a drink, & some stunning girls in there. I felt a teeny bit under-dressed. I'll make more effort next time.
