Belvedere, Liverpool

A fine little pub on a tucked away street not far from Ye Cracke and several other establishments that I like to visit on my trips to Liverpool from Ireland.

The staff have always been nice and helpful and the beer is well kept. It's a little poky but if you want a moribund super-pub you can always head to Matthew Street for a pint of eurowee.

The Wellington, Birmingham

Went in here after travelling from Ireland to see Mastodon in the HMV Institute. It became my local for the 4 days that I spent in Birmingham.

A real ale Mecca. 16 taps constantly changing (except for Oakham Citra which is one of my all time favourites after having it in the Wellington) along with a nice range of spirits.

No TV (save for the screen detailing the beers on offer) and no background music either just proper beer, conversation and laughing.

Nigel, the boss, was a true gent who remembered my good ladys order every time even though the place was packed.

I have made it my business to get back to the Wellington as soon as possible.

The Bay Horse, Masham

A very nice pub. The lady who was serving us for the afternoon was friendly and liked a laugh.

Beers well kept and a roaring fire to help you settle.

The Guest House, Southport

The best pub in Southport by miles. It was a little difficult to find (probably because I'm not from Southport :-D)

Excellent barstaff, well kept beer and a lovely smoking area. Top notch.

Ye Hole in Ye Wall, Liverpool

Nice little hideaway off Dale St. I've been here on three or four different occaisions when I travel to Liverpool from Ireland.

The decor is proper pub style and the beer is good.

The staff are very nice and one of the ladies behind the bar said something to me which has now become a catchphrase for my girlfriend whenever we talk about Liverpool.

The Lion Tavern, Liverpool

I think that Grizzlygus must have an agenda here.

The Lion Tavern is one of the best bars in the UK. I travel to Liverpool frequently from Ireland. Most recently I had my 30th birthday party there with The Lion as the venue. Sean, the owner (I think) laid on the food (which was fantastic - home made pork pies, sandwiches etc.) at a very reasonable price. The bar is spotlessly clean. There's a superb selection of tunes on the jukebox. The staff work hard in there and, speaking as an ex-barman, customers enjoy a bit of craic with the bartender while getting served.

The beer is well kept in there. The Lion is well recognised by CAMRA.

I'll be back in Liverpool on the 4th December and my first port of call (after I throw my bag into the hotel room) will be The Lion Tavern.
