The Boars Head, Poynton

Having been born down the road from "The Boar's Head" in 1955 I am somewhat acquainted with this fine ale house. My first visit was in my early teens when farmer Potts took a few of us workers into the tap room after a days hay making. My wage was half a crown and a pint of Boddington's Bitter.
I am now resident in Tyneside but often revisit my old haunt. My most recent visit was on 4/4/14 when I sampled the Black Sheep and Whale IPA. Both beers were on top form. The tap room has been treated to an excellent refurbishment with a roaring log burner and smart furniture. The welcome from staff and locals was warm and friendly. So, I am very pleased to report that all is well at my old stomping ground.

The Antelope, Upavon

7th Feb 2014......Unfortunately, it would appear that Wadworths and the ex-landlord did not see eye to eye and this once good pub is closed. Other Wadworth's pubs in the area eg. The Woodbrige, have also closed. They are also dispensing with their draught horses and stables, so, I smell a corporate change by this brewery.Shame.

The Ship, Upavon

The Ship is a gem. Excellent selection of local ales and real ciders together with superb, home cooked food. I work in the area but actually live in the North East and have found that the locals extend a warm welcome to everyone. Beers from the West Berkshire brewery are my particular favourite here but the selection is always varied and of good quality. If in doubt, the friendly staff will give you a taster ! Well worth a visit.

The Mill Hotel, Chester

Just returned from a superb weekend at the Mill Hotel. My wife and I have been here many times before and have never been disappointed. On 31/1/14 I had a few pints of Ursa Major from the Beartown Brewery. This was superb. On the following day I sampled White Monk from the Phoenix brewery and found this to be equally as good. The bar food and restaurant meals were also excellent during our stay and this was topped off with excellent service from the friendly staff. Highly recommended !

The Boot Inn, Chester

Wife and I visited a couple of times on the weekend on 31/1/14 and were greeted by welcoming staff. Old Brewery bitter was good and my wife enjoyed the house cider. Add 2 bags of Samuel Smiths crisps and got plenty change out of a fiver. I've been here a few times before on visits to Chester and love the authentic Olde Worldly atmosphere. Will always pay this great pub a call on future visits.

Ye Olde Kings Head, Chester

Visited on 1/2/14 on cold and wet day. Log fire and staff were very welcoming. Hobgoblin was on fine form. My wife had Thatchers Gold which is always a safe bet for a sparkling cider. Although we didn't eat on this visit, the menu looked good. We will be back on our next visit to Chester.
