Hudson Bay, Forest Gate

In again, service still a mature, no idea who is in the queue and just serve anyone, no matter how long you have been waiting. Guy forgot my beer the other day, took a phone call and disappeared. The toilet cubical are just dire. O e has had the lick broken since I have been coming. The other is always blocked up a d still the checklist is ticked ti say all OK. They are disgusting. The customers are still cool. People put up with it,after speaking to a few, as it is cheap beer. So if you can afford to pay more go elsewhere, if not and you don't mind crappy toilets and service then give it a whirl.

Thought I would give it another go as the customers here are a great mix and seems friendly. However the service is still dire, staff cannot read the bar even though they see who has been waiting or not. They serve the nearest one to them even though you say you were next. No smile, no customer care just slip you beer in front of you and take your cash. Pure corporate mentality. My days here are numbered.

The Goldengrove, Stratford

A busy spoon's pub with a lot of regulars in for the discounted booze. A lot of history in the area if one can be bothered to find out and do a bit of surfing while drinking the large selection of alcoholic beverages on offer. With a food hygiene rating of 3 I give trying the food a miss as minimum is a 4 and even then I have to be famished. Good large pub and gets full quickly. Staff are not always on the ball as there is a lot of chatting and not knowing who to serve as they fail to notice who comes to the bar, first rule of bar tending, read the bar. However when served staff were polite and pleasant which cannot be said for all pubs.

The Boleyn Tavern, Upton Park

I used to live on the Barking road many moons ago and wanted to see the pub again. Not much has changed, a big pub with old Victorian features which is worth the visit in itself. One of the staff was pleasant whilst the other seemed peed off to be there. It was a Monday night and only 4 people in there. The beer was OK and service OK. However I went in for 3 or 4 pints buck got Chu med out at 10pm as there were so few people. So not great if you are planning a mini session at the end of a hard day. Worth a visit for the style and grandeur of days gone by.

The Rochester Castle, Stoke Newington

This is a crap alternative to all the high price arty fatty, Tarquinette, I have more money than you pubs. It allows people who want to stay in Stoke Newington to be able to afford a beer and not pay a premium of £4 because you are surrounded by toffee nose, berry eating twats. It is a real pub for real people, nothing pretentious and is frequented by real, down to earth folk. Not the type who want balsamic vinegar with their carb oblongs or a saucer of milk for their in-bred, animal cruelty mouse-dog. The staff are friendly, can be a bit slow but the chain keeps workers pay low which is a major factor. Good space and fair pub.

Been here a few times now. Service is slow, awkward and without any civility. The internet connection keeps dropping out and is shit. However a good mix of clientele with different cultures and friendly. Shame about the slow service as I would come here more often but I get better service in the Hackney Spoon.
