The Faltering Fullback, Finsbury Park

More interesting than other pubs in Finsbury Park but still too noisy, especially in the back hall where you have to shout across the table. Great pubs don't need music!

The Stapleton Tavern, Finsbury Park

Never a fan of polished wood, but the food was good. Has not got the dark warmth of the Old Dairy or the charm of the Fullback, but is still fine.

Chapter One, Finsbury Park

Trying to be trendy and young, it just about gets away with it, but still has no warmth for late night drinking compared to a real pub.

It's bearable, but a bit sterile. The first time I went there the dufus student barman complained to me 'everyone who has been in tonight has been weirdoes', then said 'don't read the paper' when I glanced at a copy of the Standard sitting on the bar. I almost never went back.

The Sports Cafe, Haymarket

A dreadful, horrible place that should be avoided at all costs. The only times I have darkened its doors were for matches I could not see anywhere else and every time the experience has been irritating. A bimbo in a low cut top greets you as you enter (like you need that), the service is slow, they give you change on a plate (as if they deserve a tip!)but above all it is the flipping loud music they play over the sports themselves. It is mis-named as they have no love for sport here. I enjoy sports cafes in the USA where you can eat and drink in relaxed surroundings and enjoy the sports - unlike in this hellhole. Full of yobs and Essex girls who seem to enjoy such 'ambience'. Ghastly, go elsewhere.
