The Black Venus, Challacombe

Very much a foodie pub. But very good food. Decent range of ales, including Cotleigh Golden Seahawk which was well kept & tasty.

The Rising Sun Inn, Umberleigh

Friendly staff & management. Sociable locals. Decent & very filling food. The chilli was excellent. Otter Ale (excellent), Exmoor Fox & St Austell Tribute on tap. All good.

The Brocket Arms, Ayot St. Lawrence

Heard that Toby is leaving the Brocket. Will be interesting to see if anything changes...

The White Horse, Burnham Green

New McMullens ownership seems to have improved the place based on a couple of recent visits. I concur with the previos comment about high prices - Mac's Cask Ale ~30p a pint more expensive than in another nearby Mac's pub. Presumeably they think the clientel here are prepared to pay more for the ambiance? Good beer though nonetheless.
So far, the staff have been fine - none of the unfriendliness previously mentioned witnessed so far...

The Clachan, Soho

Good enough for a mid afternoon break from the bustle of Regent St/Oxford St. Decent selection of beer let down by short measures. An overzealous desire from the bar staff to have everyone (except their mates, it seemed) finished off & out of the pub by ten past eleven on Saturday night. Whatever happened to 20 min's drinking up time?

The Jerusalem Tavern, Clerkenwell

One of the best pubs in London. Well worth seeking out. Excellent St Peter's beers. As others have said, often very crowded - much better now there's no smoking though, even when busy. Get there before the post work rush & enjoy a quiet pint, then stay with the after work crowd for another two or three.

Long Arm and Short Arm, Welwyn Garden City

A good, friendly local. Too quiet at times though. McMullen's Cask Ale is particularly good. A quality McMullen ale at last.

The Sun Inn, Welwyn Garden City

Always seems to have a good selection of guest beers. Something new on every (infrequent) visit. Not convinced they're always well kept though. Had to return a pint recently for tasting like vinegar & was assured by the bar staff that "it's supposed to taste like that sir".
Sit in the car park to avoid the karaoke & you'd almost think it was a decent pub.
