The Mid Calder Inn, Mid Calder

The Tap Shop as it is more commonly known, has undergone big changes in the last few years - some of it, sadly, not for the better. This pub was at one time a HQ for the devoted "Tap Shop Tartan Army", a hardy bunch of lads and lassies who follow the Scottish National Football team to fixtures at home and across Europe. Although there is still a notice board in the corner of the pub with fixtures etc, and pennants across the walls from clubs and countries galore, these are pretty much the last remnants of what went before (apart from Davie behind the bar and a couple of regulars) and the atmosphere around the pub has changed somewhat.

All that said the staff are very friendly, the beer is always excellent, and there is still very good food available from the lovely Italian restaurant at the back of the pub.

The Black Bull Inn, Mid Calder

The Black Bull has went through a few managerial changes in the last couple of years, but it remains a nice pub, with a good atmosphere. The main bar is big enough to not be uncomfortable when it's busy, with good service the norm. I've had the food on a couple of occasions and it is fine, if a bit underwhelming. The snug bar is tiny, and absolutely lovely - pictures and poems in tribute to past locals adorn the walls. There is a surprisingly big beer garden located at the back of the pub, which is accessed through the function suite.

The Path Tavern, Kirkcaldy

Always have a drink in The Path when I visit Kirkcaldy. Great service, nice pint of Best - and my mate always regales the tale of when Snow Patrol played there, before they were famous.
