The Crosse Keys, Bank

In last night, pub is decked out in crimbo trappings, very well done given height of bar etc, must have taken ages. The brewer must be thanked for saving such a building, opulent and spacious. Good selection of guest beers always on, way too many to mention, listed via large telly screens over the bar, saves you time going around the bar to see whats on. Mind, these are faliable, guess they dont have a cellarman at night, so when that nice guest beer has gone, thats it.. Beer is still only 2.80 . Staffing has been sorted, there are loads behind the bar.Its a large oval bar,so plenty of service outside of 5.30 rush. Tables are cleared quickly, which is sometimes a 'spoons' shortfall.

The Catherine Wheel, Goring

Popped in the other Saturday,a chilly autumn night. The big wood fire you look forward to had gone out,and there was only one bitter on; a nice Brakspear though. Food was ok, based around chips. It is a good location and its the type of pub you want to go in and feel welcome. Can't shake the feeling its gone a bit downhill. The 'secret' gents? has a sign on the door saying Gentlemen..

The Padwell Arms, Seal

Took a party of 9 walkers here other Saturday, on a snowy day. Glad it was open. Dont know who orginal staff/owners were, nice older couple in charge. Still good range of beers, Larkins and v nice crimbo beer ( forgot name..) Wood fire going well, and food was good at a fare price, nice pea n ham soup. considering we didnt advise them we were turning up, service was swift. Its not a polished place ,and thats why we enjoyed it.

The Kings Head, Holmbury St Mary

Visited at end of walk with group of walkers few w/ends back. Same great beers still on,Dark Star et al. Very hot day,and welcomed the large beer garden and friendly staff. Tried,The Volunteer day before, bit dull, a 'chain pub' with your old bookson shelves etc. take a few mins more walk off the main road and find this great local.

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

went last week, lots of nice ciders/beers on boards.None available. has lots of tables outside so average about 50/60 people on a week night. 2 girls behind the bar. did their best, but hopeless,15 min wait for drink, then they closed kitchen. Commented to bloke at bar, says its always like this. Good location for tourists, but thats it. Walk up the road to Plume of Feathers, less crowds, little beer garden.wont have half your night spent waiting to be served.

The Dolphin, Sydenham

went last week for dinner. still youngsters behind bar, tried to charge me twice for guiness.sigh. Not great beer option, but food is good and well priced, sloppy service. No telly ( hurrah!) Night ruined by bunch of 20! teachers/social workers having a meeting,by bunching together 5 tables.hmm did they book the place, ask if we minded moving. Not a bit of it. Lacks a bar manager. Shame really, but yes, back to the Dartmouth Arms.

The Fox and Hounds, Romney Street

Popped in saturday lunch with a party of six.Cold day.No room by fire, so at other end of pub.It has convection heaters that dont really do the job. Party by fire compalined it was cold too. Service was bit slow on the food front,40 mins for saus/chips/peas. Beer is nice, guest brew, 1.80. So perhaps i will see it as a summer pub and try again later in year.
