The Rummer Tavern, Cardiff

Too small to swing a dead cat, but the food is pretty good.

Plain and simple!

The manager is 'suspicious'

The Cayo Arms Hotel, Cardiff

A much safer and more pleasant pub than all the other filthy, dangerous, piss-infested larger dens of Cowbridge Road in Canton. Here the landlord is amicable, the beer garden is pleasant and the decor is nice.

The best pub within a 1 mile radius.

The Robin Hood, Cardiff

Check your change......

The landlord's 19 year-old daughter sometimes works behind the bar (whilst continuing to natter all day on the phone) and she makes mistakes with money that always leave the customers out of pocket. - Oh Dear!

Caveat Emptor.

Robin's Bar, East Canton

A dark and dingy slunk hole....

Filthy toilets, filthy furniture and patrons who would cut your throat if you looked at them the wrong way.

Avoid like the plague.

The Kings Castle, Canton

Dingy place....

Just like every other pub on Cowbridge road, this place lacks atmosphere, and it is frequented by dodgy locals who are only interested in causing trouble. The toilets are in a dire state, and the music is the same every night - you can set your watch by it. This place attracts the dregs of Canton so is best avoided.

The Redback, Acton

My mates in Acton always called this place 'The Slippery Red Crack'.....
Now I know why.

The Foresters, Canton

Visited last Saturday.

Didn't get to stay very long,.... Some yob tried to hit me with a bottle by smashing it through the window behind me while I was standing outside having a fag. I was talking to another woman outside and she must have been his girlfriend - I never did find out. I have been a few times before and similar things have happened, though admittedly never this bad.

This place is a hangout for losers! The sort of place where people go after they have given up on life and just need somewhere to go and cause trouble and find something to do.

What a disaster, never ever visit this place ever.

0 stars given due to violent attack!

The Beverley, Cardiff

Cheap meals - some for under 3.

Handy for stopping off on the way home when I cant be bothered to cook dinner.

The Abbey Arms, Abbey Wood

Dangerous, unwelcoming and intimidating.

The Robin Hood, Cardiff

Nice enough place. Bar is split into two areas: a lounge/restruant on one side and a bar on the other. It is all very well decorated and comfortable too. Nice areas to sit out front and also a seating area out the back. They only show important rugby matches on the screen and they have a quiz night on Thursdays. Saturday nights can get very busy there with an oldish clientelle.

This used to be a nice pub, but the usual riff-raff from Canton has been moving in, and there was a very violent attack recently on one of the regulars right outside the pub who ended up losing an eye.

No longer recommendable because dangerous.

Walkabout, Shepherds Bush

I have the dubious honour of being the first person to be served a pint in this place when it first opened on a Sunday afternoon back in April 1998. I have been many many times since and the place is fine for a loud bashing drunken drinkup, but only if you dont mind people bumping into and pushing you over to get past you. - Yes it gets so full you cannot move easily. The toilets as other have pointed out are dirty and they are basically just a mix up - men walk into the womens and vice-versa. It is quite disorganised and casual in that aspect.

The music can be good at weekends with many live bands performing, however they do have some very lewd stage acts performed sometimes which are outrageous and could easily cause offence to those not 'initiated'. The bouncers are mean, but they do have enough fights in there to necesitate quite a substantial security presence in that place.

It is a good place to watch sport - dont bother going on a Wednesday night if you do not enjoy football. I would go back to this place, but I have probably grown out of it by now. It is for the twenty-somethings who want to get sozzled on cheap booze while dancing to loud music.

It can be fun though.

The Havelock Tavern, Kensington

Went back to this pub yesterday after many years when I used to live around the corner. It is a pleasant place for a pint, but you have to pay for bar snacks - olives and peanuts 2 and the menu was too expensive for me, but in fairness probably very good. There appeared to be some wealthy (recently) unemployed bankers sitting around reading newspapers at lunchtime. Guess they live locally and wanted to get out of the house for a bit. I highly recommend this pub as a good place to eat and drink if you are visiting Olympia. Apart from that it is not really close to anywhere else unless you happen to live locally.

The surrounding area appears to have deteriorated a bit in recent years possibly because of the large council estate at the end of Masbro road, and it might be worth watching your safety if leaving alone at night and walking in that direction. This could just be my imagination though, and a local person should verify this if possible. Nothing happened to me by the way.

Good pub, it has sentimental appeal for me because it was my old local, I would go back, and it is to be recommended.

I also checked for signs of any restoration work inside since the fire a few years back, but the place still looks exactly the same, maybe the fire was very small or it was only in the kitchen.

I have uploaded two pictures which I hope get posted.
