The Mansion, Gipsy Hill

I've been to The Mansion three times now and with each visit I have noticed slight improvements.

The first time my husband and I stumbled across the place and decided to pop in for a drink. The place was quiet and we were welcomed and served quickly. The only complaint I would have is that my pint glass could not have been described as clean... :(

The next time we decided to try the food there. I ordered the fish pie and my husband the roast chicken which was amazingly good. I cannot say the same for the fish pie. Having said that I would eat there again.

The place is OK but could work more on cleanliness. For example the ladies toilet bowl was solid brown on my first visit. The salt and pepper dishes are grotesquely dirty -you could serve sea salt or gourmet salt in an open dish, regular table salt no. Use a shaker! Sheesh!

The service is a bit slow and they tend to forget about you.... We were asked if we wanted dessert, we said 'sure we'll have a look at the menu'... It never came.... Eventually we had to go to the bar to pay so we could leave.

The Florence, Herne Hill

The Florence is a typical gastro pub... A wee bit pretentious and somewhat over priced. I have been to the Florence a couple of times now and have had mixed feelings.

The selection at the bar is good, and the menu typically gastro.... Having to order the side separately is really my pet hate! I just can't stand it. What the Florence charge for a main.... -it should come with all the bells and whistles!

I have eaten there only once and probably won't do so again. When the food finally arrived it was not what I had ordered and the service could have been better...

The Park, West Norwood

This pub is very nice! I like to first take a stroll in the lovely Norwood Park opposite the pub, take in the panoramic views of London and then nip off for a cheeky pint and a delicious pizza... Aaaaah. I also enjoy all the board games on offer, the beer garden and the Sunday roasts. YUM.

The owners are very friendly and the place is done up to a very high standard but is not, most importantly, pretentious!

Two thumbs up.

The Hope, West Norwood

The staff are very friendly and the prices reasonable. The pub has undergone some refurbishments but could use some more work (the ladies has some strange DIY features).

The Hope has a nice and cosy beer garden.
