The Estcourt Tavern, Watford

Good Pre-Match pub. Nice atmosphere, but small and thus crowded on match days. Still, far far better than a trip to the Red Lion. Food is hearty and decently priced though.

Yates's, Watford

Nobody drinks anything other than Carling or Stella and that says it all. Watford is poor for pubs, but this one is still to be avoided.

Seems to attract scummers and shirtless northern labourers like poo attracts flies.

The Wishing Well, Watford

Dark and Dingy. Not a particularly welcoming place, and the layout is a little strange, pillars and wooden dividers aplenty. But the beer is good, the guinness is cold and the Thai food is fantastic, and very reasonably priced (like 5 a head tops). Wouldnt spend a whole evening there, but there are certainly worse pubs around.

The Horns, Watford

Dirty filthy Pub. Seems to be a place for lecherous 50 something men, and slutty looking women with bingo wings and a distinct lack of clothes, teeth or morals. That may be your thing, but it isnt mine.

Interior is distinctly dingy, and everywhere looks a bit dark and grimy. Pointless brick-a-brack adorns the walls.

The lager is average at best, but the Guinness is very poor indeed. Prices were expensive, and they stick about 50p a pint on whenever they have a band on which can make a round very expensive indeed.

The Nascot Arms, Watford

Lovely pub. Been run by a Kiwi couple, Craig and Olivia for about a year. The lager is excellent (as I'm chuffed they dropped Stella for another 5% lager, but disappointed it was replaced with Heineken!), the guinness likewise, and is one of the few pubs in Watfrod to have any sort of range of decent Ales. Recently they have had LBW, GK IPA and Ruddles. Always a guest ale too. The patio area had been caopied as a new smoking area and seems very polular - but as a non smoker, I'm just happy to be able to get a seat, as its very poular on Fridays and at weekends.

I'd love to see a wheat beer in there, or some other continental lager, a Budvar or Star would be lovely. And full size bottles of magners would be nice, or else it costs about 5 for a pint from 2 little bottles.

They have just extended the food service to 8pm on Fri/Sat/Sun, and while it's no gourmet chef, the food is still better than the fare on offer at the local rivals - the Bedford or the Southern Cross.
