The Tut 'n' Shive, Yeadon

Closed down. Had a nice pint on Golden Pippin late summer 08. Go to the Tarn up the road instead. Great ale and a pub dog that will eat all your crisps for you.

Mr Foley's Cask Ale House, Leeds

Great for a sit down with friends or family. Great pint of Leeds Best and Yorkshire Terrier when I last went. Old building which is a nice place to be.

Hoagys Bar, Leeds

This side of the Headrow really needs to up its game. Poor.

Becketts Bank, Leeds

If you want atmosphere go elsewhere. If you want to chat to middle aged women on the prowl, then your in the right place on a Saturday night. If drowning your sorrows with cheap decent real ale is your thing, then join the other residents of heartbreak hotel through the week.

Sela Bar, Leeds

So you've been out in Leeds on a Friday or Saturday. It's close to midnight and most pubs have or are about to close. Yet, you still want a few more drinks but you don't want to go to a loud dancy bar like Jakes' Bar where the musics blasting and the bar staff are to busy doing their best Tom Cruise impression rather than serve a beer. Well Sela bar is perfect. Get a decent beer or short and still hear your own voice. A bit of a den, but still better than what Jake's has to offer.

The Sair Inn, Linthwaite

John Bonser and his one man ale tour has summed this olde worlde pub up a treat. I bought a couple of freshly shot rabbits from a local chap for the price of a pint. Had a couple of the micro brewery ale and left a happy man. Will be going again in the new year. Hopefully will get a duck next time.

The Upstairs Downstairs, Morecambe

Closed.

Fanny's Ale And Cider House, Saltaire

Superb beer and cider. A small den of a pub that is a real gem.

13 Jun 2008 14:46

The Chemic, Woodhouse

A classic. A diamond in the rough. Good ale. Fish and chips next door. Seven spices curry house up the road. What more could you want?

13 Jun 2008 14:00

The West End House, Kirkstall

Great pub food. If your like me and hate 2for1 frozen pub meals then go to the West End House. Not cheap but big plates washed down with great ale. Good for cider drinkers also. Beer garden is an after thought but an enjoyable place to go pre and post Rhinos/cricket matches.

13 Jun 2008 13:56

The Skyrack, Headingley

Ten to fifteen years ago this pub was the busiest in headingly along with the oak. Since the Box/Arc/Trio have sprung up and students have gone from scruffy penny pinchers to over preened pretty boys they all have suffered. I wouldn't waste my time in most of Headingly these days. The kids have taken over much to the residents dismay. Go to Horsforth instead.

13 Jun 2008 13:50

The Malt Shovel, Armley

The kind of pub that always seems to have 3 or 4 scruffs waiting fo them to open on a tuesday morning. Do these people not have jobs to go to? Of course they don't. Typical working class establishment. Cheap lager, everyone camped outside smoking cheap and long cigarettes. No guest ales, just smooth or lager. Better than the Royal but the Travellers up he road is a better bet in Armley.

13 Jun 2008 13:37

Whitelocks, Leeds

Excellent pub hidden down the allyways in Leeds city centre. The rised bar means that the staff tower over you when they serve fine real ale. In my opinion though the smoking ban has improved eveyones health but it has taken away some of the charm of Whitelocks. I like this place at its dingy smokey best. Used to do cracking roast beef dinner but haven't tried it recently. Keith Waterhouse's favorite pub. High praise indeed.

13 Jun 2008 13:31

The Square, Leeds

Why is 'Squares' as it has been rebranded still open? It caters for idiots in stripy jumpers who wear cheap gold chains over their clothing, who like to drink flat lager, alchopops and two for one naff cocktails. Lurid sticky carpets, scruffy furniture, stale smell. I walked past the other Saturday night and saw it was half empty. Those that had made the effort, 40yr old women of hen do, young scallys spoiling for fight, chinese man selling flashing light thingies. Oh wait a minute, the chinese man was just hanging around the entrance. He knew his target market well.

13 Jun 2008 13:24

The Scarbrough Hotel, Leeds

Great selection of ales. Busiest pub in Leeds on a Friday after the office bods are let out of their cages. Now that Leeds United aren't good anymore, matchday isn't a problem so much here either(Football fans do indeed only sing when they're winning). Food is ok but its the beer you'll come back for. Checkout my pub crawl to either start or finish at the taps.

13 Jun 2008 13:15

O'Neills, Leeds

I went to O'Neills the other day on a thursday night with a group of guys on our football end of season nigh out. No real ale but Cafferys and plenty of stout instead. Good selection of Irish whisky which helped our drinking game enormously. A good pub. Does what it says on the tin. Upstairs never seems to be open, and its a right trek to the bogs. Not a world beater but solid enough.

13 Jun 2008 13:10

Hogshead, Leeds

Not a great pub. Always smells of festering bins due to the ally nearby. Keep walking down the hill and ove the bridge to the Adelphi. Or walk up over the road and into Whitelocks where the allyway smells of flowers and sweet sweet ale.

13 Jun 2008 13:03

Fox & Newt, Leeds

Me and my dad went a few months back and sampled the excellent home brew. The landlord said they had refurbished the brewing equipment left to rot in the cellar to make the ale. Brilliant old pub feel. Sat and watched the Rugby. Told my mate about it so we went last month on a friday night to find it shut!!!? Was the boss taking a holiday? Had there been a tradgedy worse than this place closing down to explain the locked doors and no lights on? Please tell me its not closed!

13 Jun 2008 12:59

Aire, Leeds

Good beer (Taylors Landlord/Moretti/Amstel), good food, slate floor and exposed brickwork tastfully done. Sit outside and watch the river go by, or watch the sport on the tele. One of those places you could take your granny or your other half. They need a new sign though as it reminds me of the walkabout. Small grumble I know.

13 Jun 2008 12:46

The Dry Dock, Leeds

As the barge is a scream pub and located across from Leeds polly, you can guess the age of the average drinker in the Dry Dock. However, there really isn't anywhere quite like it so pop in just for one. There will always be a scruffy kid you can thrash at pool and when the sun comes out, sit on the top deck and enjoy. A friendly place that is heaving on weekend due to the late bar and host of the worst gents room in Leeds. I remember the days of sausage, beans, chips and a pint of carling premier for 3 quid. O to be a tax dodging student once more.

13 Jun 2008 12:39

The Sun Hotel and Bar, Lancaster

If you want to moan about prices, then go to Wetherspoons down the road. The Sun used to be a rough pub, but after a total refurb and I believe the same people who turned the waterwitch round it is now one of, if not the best pub in Lancaster. Excellent ales, draught and bottled. Nice seating area to eat and clean toilets. What more could you want? And don't say cheap drinks..........

13 Jun 2008 12:32

Three Legs, Leeds

Oh dear. The worst pub in Leeds it may well be. Always busy with the kind of people who communicate by shouting obsenities. From old soaks to girls weaing dirty tracksuits manouvering pushchairs with fags in their gobs. I'm sure the management would cash giro's here if he could to save his customer time they've got oodles of. Unless you like your pubs with a sprinkle of blood, sweat and knock off gear then avoid like you would the crazy person on the bus.... 'Cos he'll be in the three legs smelling of old wet dog.

12 Jun 2008 19:43

Palace, Leeds

I think that the last comment about the sevice is a little harsh. Not contenders for best bar staff in Yorkshire, but whenever I go service doesn't seem to be a any more of a problem than at any other busy bar.
Good ales, but dont bother with the food as bar aire down the road has it licked. Well lit outdoorseating area but the gents look like my old victrian school bogs. More a drinkers pub and not therefore a sausage factory as my mate puts it so well.

12 Jun 2008 19:36

The Town Street Tavern, Horsforth

Best pub in Horsforth. Real ale, excellent fayre upstairs, loyal dogs welcome and catered for, clean toilets, good decor. You even purchase a beer carry out when you have to go home. I would rent a room here. If they did thatkind of thing. Go today.

12 Jun 2008 19:25

The Wrens, Leeds

A good pub which is often overlooked as it's sandwiched bewteen the new table dancing place, sandinista or whatever its called and gatecrasher across the road. Also upper briggate and its many takeaways is a mecca for the drunken leeds fighter. But don't let that put you off. If you want a no fuss pint and to mind your own business then this is the place for you. Friendly staff and the building has a rich history.

12 Jun 2008 19:17

The Victoria Hotel, Leeds

A great everyman pub. Your fussy mother would like it here, as would your other half. Great big booths for groups to sit in(couples, please stop taking up a whole booth please!). Tetley mild on tap, sausage mash and onion gravy, raining outside, warm inside. Perfect day.

12 Jun 2008 19:08

The Swan, Leeds

Nice bar, good selection of beer on tap and in bottles. Good meeting pub, or if your going to the city varieties. Take an extra tenner out with you though.

12 Jun 2008 19:01

The North Bar, Leeds

A cracking little bar. Always busy in the evening but usually somewhere to sit. Great handpull and bottled beers. Friendly staff but clearly not employed for their ale knowledge. Good music, simple decor, chatty atmosphere. The loo's need a sprucing up though. Go to get away from televised anything and enjoy!

12 Jun 2008 18:58

The Duck and Drake, Leeds

The Drake is a tricky one. Great selection of ales, however not the cheapest place to drink. Good in daytime for a quiet pint with your paper. However, in the evening a more 'lively' crowd descend. Bar staff are a little slow and the pie and peas can be bought cheaper in the market. If you want to step back in time to the 1950's but pay 2008 prices then this is the place for you.

12 Jun 2008 18:43

The Adelphi, Leeds

The Adelphi is a mixed bag. Usually a decent guest ale to accompany the tetleys. I had the fishfinger sandwich mentioned a few weeks ago. I didn't expect birdeyes finest plonked down in front of me but that is what I got! I told the bar person to thank the Captain personaaly for me. Can be a bit too busy on a fri/sat night due to the twenty something art school (didn't go to art school but wear the trendy non perscription glasses anyway)crowd who hang around the bar nursing a poncy lager in a stupid glass. Not cheap but the wasabi peas are recommended.
