The Dartmouth Castle, Hammersmith

Have visited a few times for an evening drink, but decided to try it for Sunday lunch. Surprisingly quiet, so no problem getting a table. Service was good (although it was quiet) and the food was excellent, if at the usual inflated gastro pub prices.

The Packhorse and Talbot, Chiswick

Noticed the revamped exterior and decided to call in to check it out as haven't been in for ages. Recently refurbed about 6 weeks ago. Very impressed with the new interior decor. Had just eaten elsewhere, but the packhorse has a good traditional pub menu (not usual gastro stuff you see everywhere now) Will definately visit again to try the food.
Service was okay, although had run out of sparkling mineral water. Was a quiet Sunday afternoon. Be interesting to see what it's like when busier.

The Duke of Kent, Ealing

Decided to try this pub out for lunch after having it recommended by a work colleague. Haven't been here for years and surprised by the difference, much better than I remembered it. Fairly quiet when we turned up, so no queues at the bar. The food we ordered was served quickly and was excellent quality. Nice family atmosphere, but with plenty of tables for couples out for a quiet meal. Not sure when it was last refurbed but decor was v.good. Seemed quite popular as the spare tables were taken up before we had finished eating. The only draw back to this place is that it is located out of the way, and if you drive there, it has limited parking. Food was reasonably priced, but 4 for 2 soft drinks. Managed to get seats by the window overlooking the garden which looks great for the summer. Will definitely return.

The Brewmaster, Leicester Square

Visited this pub last week. It's right next to Leicester Sq. tube station, so a great place to meet with friends before moving on somewhere. I recommend the upstairs bar as it's usually quieter and you can normally grab a seat. The times I've been there I've always had good service from the bar staff, very pleasant and friendly. Prices are what you expect in centre of London but not the worst around this area.
On the down side though, we decided to grab a bite to eat on our last visit. Avoid at all cost. The BBQ Chicken, cheese and bacon, although advertised in the menu as being a double breast of chicken, when it arrived turned out to be some kind of reconstituted chicken strips, poorly warmed up in a microwave. The Ham and Eggs looked like the ham had seen better days and the eggs were luke warm. Chips were quite nice though! On the whole, fine for a quick pint, but grab a bite to eat somewhere else.
