The Kings Arms, Kidlington

Can't understand how this places makes it into the GBG tbh. Appeared to be only (a very uninspiring) Hobgobblin and Brakspear on, draught ale wise. Asked landlady if it was just those two on, she replied; 'No, we have Brakspear on too'!!! transpied they had an unclipped 'guest' on, which was so flat, lifeless and incipid to be drinkable!
Poor place!

The Bell Inn, Banbury

Also think the place is over-rated (imo). Seemed a bit clique regarding customers and staff..certainly not so welcoming. Beer ok(ish). Also agree with other posts about ridiculous pickey opening times - 1pm or something silly on a Saturday!
Prefered the Hook Norton pub further into town tbh..but will give the Bell a try again.

The Cider Press, Plymouth

Visited this place years ago..and this weekend. Good for a Saturday night bar..real ales on - nothing spectacular but a welcome change to the usual bar mentality of lager and WKD! However, only plastic glasses...and not a real cider in sight!

The Fisherman's Arms, Plymouth

Proves welcome when the Commercial is no doubt closed! Good range of St.Austell ales: Tribute, Proper Job..and guests. However, when I popped in Sat afternoon, place totally devoid of customers or atmosphere. More Restaurant/Gastro than real pub feel!

The Commercial Inn, Plymouth

Staying down in Plymouth over the weekend - and in the the Barbican, was looking foward to visiting the Commercial. However, following previous comments about erratic opening times..pretty peeved off to find it closed Sat afternoon as well as returning around 7pm. No matter how friendly Landlord is supposed to be - get out of the business if you can't be bothered to ever open! Shouldn't be in the GBG for above reasons!
